Directory size display discrepency
Hi, I would liek to ask the list if any one can explain why there should be a discrepency in the directory sizes that are displayed when I use explorer on Windows. This has been reported to me by a user, I have never seen this before as I dont use windows if I can help it :-)... When I slect properties of a directory it has two enties Size and Size on disk As an example size says 33 bytes, size on disk says 512kb and if I du a du -ks on the directory it reports 4 k. Has anyone noticed this before ?, do I need to set up samba a different way? I should say that the machine that samba i...

select observations from longitudinal data set
I have the following longitudinal data: id time y 1 1 10 1 2 12 1 3 15 1 6 18 2 1 8 2 3 9 2 4 11 2 5 12 3 1 8 3 4 16 4 1 9 4 5 13 5 1 7 5 2 9 5 6 11 .... I want to select the observations at time 4. if the observation at time 4 is missing, then i want to slect the observation at time 3. if the observation at time 3 is also missing, then i want to select observation at time 5. otherwise i will put a missing value there. the selected set is like id time y 1 3 15 2 4 11 3 4 16 4 5 13 5 4 NA ... so the rule is (1) obs at time 4 for each id; (2) if no such...

Exclude data using logical
Hi, I'm wanting to exclude data more than 2 sd's from the mean before proceeding with further analyses. I've created new logical variables (a and b) and written them to the existing dataframe. I want to be able to subset the TRUE observations based on another 2 factor variable. I'm assuming this is possible, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong, as I get results that

Rails compatible JS datepicker -- beta
hi all, I''ve built a simple javascript datepicker for use with Rails. I''m sure others exist, but think this one is quite decent without being overengineered. http://projects.exactlyoneturtle.com/date_picker/ At present there''s no Rails HTML generator method for it; later I will package it in a script/generator, but for now it is quite easy to use with Rails and

2 ISQs
Hello, I tried to find the answer to my problem already but it is a specialised one I think because nothing was found. I previously have a ISP who was very fast ("extreme speed" service from Cable Modem) but that blocked SMTP port and some other for poor non-commercial users... And it gives dynamic addresses so no DNS at home without tricks... So I went to another
