listening to ogg with a Mac
...to site not built yet Macamp 14 day demo. Weird...website won't scroll down, can't even reach the download links. Their logo is a ripoff of the Winamp logo, and its name is a ripoff of "Winamp for Mac," which is totally free and works great. These "macamp" people seem sleazy. N2MP3 Pro Demo. Doesn't say on the main page how long the demo is good for, and it's for OSX, which means it should be in the other category. Full price? 60 bucks U.S.! Downloaded it anyway. Says it will "encode a complete audio cd," "encode tracks off an audio cd," &...

Send Blars email from a non-listed account to verify current rates and arrange payment." (Further research indicates that blars may be legit, but this is kind of sleazy) The IP of the "rejected" smtp server was not included. The 'rejection' text appears as follows: Your message with the subject & "'last' working OK for everybody on 4-STABLE?" addressed to "stable@freebsd.org" <stable@freebsd.org> was rejec...

More on TTSSH and the SSH trademark
...in. Of course I'm not a lawyer, but I'll be willing to hire one if they come after me. Also, looking at the situation from more of a moral point of view, although I appreciate what Tatu Ylonen and others have done for the security community, I think pushing these trademark claims is pretty sleazy. The IETF drafts all use the word "SSH" extensively and that's obviously the name that everyone uses to talk about the protocols. It's not fair that one party can incorporate the protocol name in their product name but everyone else can't. If SSH Communications want to disting...

lm() using data frames
Under NT 4.0, using Version 0.63.2 Beta (Jan 12, 1999): Not sure if this is a bug or a feature (forcing me to program less clumsily) so I'll report it here rather than to bugs. With a medium size data set (1700 observations,70 explanatory variables) and plenty of memory, specifically > gc() free total Ncells 886738 1000000 Vcells 7912909 8388608 I get a fatal error when

Community: How to deal with attempts at sabotage
Hi all, The underlying assumption of membership in any community is that your participation is at worst neutral, and if possible positive. Communities, online or off, generally do what they can to protect themselves from detrimental influences, which is where policies, politeness, moderators, and all that come into play. Puppet''s community has been both fortunate and awesome,

Must have been asked before, but I can''t find the solution
I''m attempting to migrate from vmware to xen, however I need to be able to run more than one bridge. Think of it this way: xen0 xenU-1 xenU-2 xenU-3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Inside_bridge_1: eth0 vm1_eth0 vm2_eth0 virtual_switch_2: vm1_eth1 vm2_eth1 vm3_eth1 Outside_bridge_3: eth1 vm2_eth2 vm3_eth0 Now, I can modify the existing

[patch 00/33] xen: Xen paravirt_ops implementation
Hi, This is the Xen implementation for the paravirt_ops interface. The series is based on 2.6.22-rc1-mm1, and I think its ready to be cooked in -mm with a view to being merged in 2.6.23. The first part of the series is some small changes to the core kernel. Apart from the new code added in "Allocate and free vmalloc areas" (posted many times before), they are simply a few one-liners

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down... http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing comment: "If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually become ubiquitously implemented
