Problem with anova and the new abbreviation restrictions
An unwanted side effect of the new restrictions on abrreviated names.
The anova.coxph command, in a slavish copy of anova.lm etc, returns a data frame with
column labels of
loglik Chisq Df Pr(>|Chi|)
If one tries to extract the final column of the table errors result since it is not a
standard R variable name.

shorewall startup speed - an idea
Dear All,
I think I have a useful idea for how shorewall startup could be speeded
up in a more automatic manner. Apologies if this is daft, but I think it
might work....
Motivation: not all users understand the intricacies of shoreall beyond
using the distro setup tool. [And on this particular laptop, shorewall
takes 15 seconds during boot.]
I have already read this (about shorewall

[Patch] Drop Frames in Cortado
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
The attached patch allows frames to be dropped in Cortado:
Why:
Currently, frames cannot truly be dropped in Cortado. If the decoded YUV
arrives too late at the videosink, it will not be converted to RGB, but
every frame must still be decoded. On slow systems, once the queue of
undecoded Theora packets fills up, the video decoder will block the ogg

Asterisk QOS
I asked this on the list over the weekend, and likely missed a few people inboxes.
I'm having a problem pulling data from RTPAUDIOQOS. For testing purposes I have asterisk sending QOS data to the console. It seems I get QOS data only if the caller hangs up, with the variable being empty if the callee (or asterisk) hangs up.
Any idea why I would see this?

R-alpha: various graphics Q.
...rs (it would be nice)
"arrows" has different options from S-PLUS (no "open" or "rel" options,
no "lwd" parameter or graphics parameter pass-through; "size" in S
corresponds to "length" in R). [I know we needn't follow S-PLUS syntax
slavishly, but it would be nice at least to compile a more-or-less
comprehensive list of differences.]
The xaxs option "i" (no extra space around xlim, ylim) isn't documented
axis() first argument is called "side" (not "which" as in S: see
comment above)

Getting and providing help on this list (was "Printing on Samba with WinNT...")

I very, very, very much appreciate John T.'s answers on this list.
He is most of the time giving very precise, hitting on the nail's top
answers, and he also very often gives enough background info to not
only reproduce the solution by slavishly copying the settings he
suggests, but also understand *why* it works this way.

Sendmail and Dovecot deliver (dovecot-lda)
Hi,
I have a Centos 5 system with sendmail running as my MTA.
Normally I note from sendmail logs that mails get delivered using the
'local' mailer.
I have therefore entered the following into my sendmail.mc file, from an
earlier post on this list:
define(`LOCAL_MAILER_PATH',`/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver')
define(`LOCAL_MAILER_FLAGS',`DFMPhfnu9')

[LLVMdev] Proposal for GSoC project for improving llvm-test testsuite
...think that's twofold.
Tests that run a *lot* of complicated code would test the correctness of
the compiler. Think code written by crazy people that does crazy things;
such code would hit a lot more code paths in the LLVM compiler than
something written by in-house application programmers that slavishly
obey a set of style guidelines.
The other situation is the usual CPU-intensive benchmarks. Number
crunching of any kind, large symbolic computations (such as the program
that first proved the four-color conjecture), scheduling programs for
machine parks or logistics, running any kind of program on...

Can't get Local DNS to Run [Was[ remove wins entries - samba 3]]
...t.
My named.conf and dhcpd.conf are built from John's example, as mentioned
above. /Etc/hosts has the IP address/name pairs he calls for. I think
that means I'm running a local name server.
As you can see, I have very little understanding of what's going on
here; I've rather slavishly followed John's example, and I'm clearly
making mistakes I'm not recognizing.
Thanks

Multiple rails apps with Mongrel
I''m trying to set up several different Rails apps on the same domain, each
one running Mongrel. After reading all of the documentation, it''s fairly
clear how to use subdomains - create several Apache virtual hosts, each of
which has a different ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse command to redirect
from different ports (ie, 3000, 3100), and then have each Mongrel instance

predict (PR#2686)
# r-bugs@r-project.org
`predict' complains about new factor levels, even if the "new" levels are
merely levels in the original that didn't occur in the original fit and were
sensibly dropped, and that don't occur in the prediction data either. (At
least if `drop.unused.levels' was set to TRUE, which the default.)

remove wins entries - samba 3
Hi,
I am having the same problem. Did you figure out how to do this? Any
help in how to remove stale WINS entries from Samba would be greatly
appreciated.
Cheers,

Total Tracks Tag?
heyas-
I believe there is a need for a standard vorbis comment
field to encode "Total Number of Tracks (on a CD)".
Why we need this --------------------
- Existing Vorbis programs already implement this,
inconsistently, and hence don't interoperate.
These seems the key reason to me.
- MP3s include this
- Some software (e.g., iTunes) uses this information,
e.g., to display

OpenSSH v3.8p1 fails to interoperate for GSSAPI (Kerberos) and X-Windows
Versions: openssh-3.8p1-33, heimdal-0.6.1rc3-51, XFree86-4.3.99.902-40,
tk-8.4.6-37, all from SuSE 9.1 (unhacked); back-version peers have
openssh-3.5p1, XFree86-4.3.0-115, etc. from SuSE 8.2.
Symptoms:
1. When the client and server versions are unequal, the Kerberos ticket
is not accepted for authentication. All the clients have
PreferredAuthentications gssapi-with-mic, gssapi, others.

[LLVMdev] Proposal for GSoC project for improving llvm-test testsuite
hello everybody,
I would like to improve the llvm-test suite[1] as a part of GSoC 2008
program for LLVM.
I have few concerns/problems regarding this, please give me your feedbacks
and suggestions to come up with the proper proposal.
*Goal:* Improve the llvm-test testsuite.
*Idea:* Extend the llvm-test testsuite to include new programs and
benchmarks[2]. Test programs should be more CPU intensive

...works, I would then read the instructions that come with samba for
installing the windows printer drivers on the linux server. These
instructions are in a document called: PRINTER_DRIVER.txt in the textdocs
section of your samba distribution. I find these instructions confusing but
just follow the slavishly and you should be ok.
I caution you to be certain that you don't get case conversions when you
copy these files back and forth to the server, since then they might not
work on the windows client and may even prevent windows from starting.
I find it helpful in trouble shooting printers to change...
