Samba 3 and OpenLDAP 2.1.22
...with openldap 2.0.27 as a PDC in the past) I've read up on a few pages about some of the reqs that are needed: http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb/smb-ldap-3-howto.html I've followed the Samba How-To as well. I edited my slapd.conf file and added the correct schemas and indexs. I rebuilt my slapindex no problem. I added some inital data to my LDAP tree so I could see what is going on and to track a few things. Whats odd is that if I do a simple search in my tree (ldapsearch -x) I cant seem to pull any of the information that I entered. I entered just some basic stuff, very similar to what...

Can't get password policies (bad lockout attempt) to work on Samaba 3 + OpenLDAP

Samba-3.0.1pre1 and LDAP
Hiya, I have recently upgrade samba to 3.0.1pre1 from alpha3-19. The upgrade went well with no real problems, except ..... I have noticed today that the load on the LDAP server is extremely high. CPU usage on slapd is anywhere between 10%-80%. At one point to day everything came to a grinding halt. The only difference between I can think of is the samba upgrade. This is with an average load of

BUIILTIN accounts with Samba 3.0.24 + LDAP
...viewing security on files or folders within shares from WinXP Pro SP2 workstations. When viewing security, certain builtin accounts (Domain Users, Domain Admins, etc) wouldn't resolve to their DisplayNames and would instead show the SID...this after much delay. I've reindexed LDAP w/ slapindex thinking this was part of the problem, but it had no effect. I can see all of the BUILTIN accounts using net groupmap list and getent group, but I don't see them with net rpc rights list accounts. Any idea what I may have changed that broke this? -Justin

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
...can operate on the databases concurrently. In OpenLDAP 2.1.4 we lifted the restriction against using the slap tools while slapd is running on back-bdb. You can perform online backups using slapcat or BDB's db_dumputility without interrupting your LDAP service. You still must not use slapadd or slapindex while slapd is running (due to application-level caching in slapd(8))." Point to highlight for disaster recovery: "You can perform online backups using slapcat or BDB's db_dumputility without interrupting your LDAP service." Therefore, can we update it for this and all the co...

3.0.22 to 3.0.23a and sambaSID
Hi, I try to upgrade 3.0.22 to 3.0.23a and have read the RELEASE NOTES, but I cannot connect via windows after upgrading. So I copied the new samba.schema and added "index sambaSID sub" to slapd.conf. I stopped the ldap Server and ran slapindex. So after doing an smbldap-usershow on console I saw all informations about the wanted user, but I am not able to logon via windows. What did I miss? Greetings Sascha

No predefined Groups
Hello, I have set up a Samba-Server (samba-3.0.23a-0.1.34.x86_64.rpm and after that samba-3.0.23c-0.1.36.x86_64.rpm) as PDC and tdbsam-passdb backend. I can add XP-Computers and Users to the Domain, but the Domain-Users has problems with Access-Rights on the Win-XP-Systems. The Reason is (i think so) that samba has not generated the typical Groups: Result from 'net groupmap list' =>

3.0.23 for Debian Sarge: LDAP problems
Hi, I always prefer the Samba packages for Debian-Stable from the Samba-Team and I never had a problem so far (thank you, Simo!). Yesterday I updated from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23 in my LDAP-based network. I updated samba.schema, added "index sambaSID eq,sub" to my slapd.conf and ran slapindex. When I started slapd and samba afterwards, I saw error messages like these (from smbd.log): [2006/07/20 00:14:36, 0] lib/smbldap.c:smb_ldap_setup_conn(638) ldap_initialize: Time limit exceeded [2006/07/20 00:14:36, 1] lib/smbldap.c:another_ldap_try(1150) Connection to LDAP server failed for t...

Groups and sambaSIDList
I have a problem with one samba 3.0.24 pdc using ldap with nss etc, sharing works fine, but ownership and the security tab seems crippled, and usrmgr.exe complains about "the specified local group does not exist" (of course without saying which group) so I dived in to check I found filters like this one below in the ldap log - is that to support nested groups? There are no groups with

Samba 3.0.23pre1 Available for Download
...=== There has also been a minor update the Samba LDAP schema file. A substring matching rule has been added to the sambaSID attribute definition. For OpenLDAP servers, this will require the addition of 'index sambaSID sub' to the slapd.conf configuration file. It will be necessary to run slapindex after making this change. There has been no change to actual data storage schema. ================ Download Details ================ The uncompressed tarballs and patch files have been signed using GnuPG (ID 157BC95E).
