migrate openldap to centos 7 server..
...d all kinds of info on migrating, but none if it seems to work completely for me. It seems that the newer centos 7 opendlap config doesnt use the slapd.conf file any more. So It appears I need two ldif files. one for the config and one for the actual database? on the old server if I do (as root) slapcat -n 0 , i get the error slapcat: could not open database. but I was able to get a dump of the (non-config) database with slapcat -n 1, but I cant import that ldif on the new centos 7 server without the config part... anyone know what the right procedure for this would be ? regards, Jason

Samba 3 to Samba 4 migration
....9. This system does not have Samba 3 or OpenLDAP installed. This installation passes all of the initial kerberos, ldap and dns tests. The name was changed because this system is on the same network as the Samba 3 installation (changing the network is not an option). I have a file containing a slapcat output from the Samba 3 domain. I have edited this file to change the domain SID to the new domain's value. I have also removed all machine entries from this file for testing purposes. So: how do I import the slapcat data into Samba 4's LDAP server? The procedure documented in the Samba...

...is preserved across sessions. When I up the logging to 4, I see messages like get_privileges: No privileges assigned to SID [S-1-5-21-1786355187-4025355074-2784741737-501] Hmm. That RID doesn't look correct. This user is in two groups, Domain Users (513) and a local lab group (3011). Slapcat does not show that SID, nor does "net groupmap list". I looked this up, and it appears to be a guest account. OK, maybe not a problem. As you might be able to tell, the slightest thing sets me off. The login continues with accesses using user nobody (uid=99,gid=99), and the user...

OpenLDAP Problem
...ntos3 directory server, I am currently testing centos4 as an upgrade of this machine in the future. There is a special user we have called cn=samba,ou=special in our directory, this user is for samba to use when binding to the directory. On the production replica server, i have taken an offline slapcat ldif of the entire tree. I then copied this file to the test centos4 machine running ldap with the same configuration as the centos3 production server. I did a slapadd of this ldif file, then fixed some minor import errors as a result. The problem occurs now when we try to bind to the test mach...

Moving Samba/LDAP PDC to another server
I need to move our existing Samba/LDAP PDC to another server. Currently it is on server1 and I want server2 to be the Samba/LDAP PDC instead. However, I am uncertain of what files need to be copied over to ensure that I don't have to rejoin machines to the domain. Searching the web I found information on creating the initial PDC setup, but nothing on moving the PDC. I also have a system

Openldap for PDC
I have been testing with openldap_2.2.13-2 and have experience on 2 occasions lockups where the ldap server does not respond (slapcat will just hang). I have upgraded to openldap_2.2.13-4. Is there a recommended version of openldap for SambaPDC? Does anyone have a system in production using openldap_2.2.13-2 or openldap_2.2.13-4? I'm currently using samba3-20b any recommendations for a production system would be welcome.

...ion).) With back-bdb, databases are locked on a page level, which means that multiple threads (and processes) can operate on the databases concurrently. In OpenLDAP 2.1.4 we lifted the restriction against using the slap tools while slapd is running on back-bdb. You can perform online backups using slapcat or BDB's db_dumputility without interrupting your LDAP service. You still must not use slapadd or slapindex while slapd is running (due to application-level caching in slapd(8))." Point to highlight for disaster recovery: "You can perform online backups using slapcat or BDB's d...

Windows XP joining Samba/LDAP domain problem (User cannot be found) [SOLVED]
...istent in Users it cannot add the Samba attributes to the POSIX side and hence windows declares user cannot be found. Some Googling revealed that you can store machine accounts in ou=Users so the solution I found was as follows: 1) Stop LDAP and Dump the directory into an ldif file using "slapcat -l > /root/userdump.ldif" 2) Open the LDIF file in a text editor and use search and replace to change all machine account entries from ou=Computers to ou=Users. Note that at the top of your ldif file there's an entry that adds the Computers organisational unit. Do not change this....

Copy *just* user accounts from LDAP?
...poses - and I'd like to keep the user account information synchronized with the main server so user's passwords are the same, etc. - while leaving behind workstation accounts, etc. Does anyone have any ideas on how best to approach this? I guess what I'm asking is, I'm OK with slapcat/slapadd'ing periodically from the main server to the off-site server, but does anyone have ideas for how to filter just the user accounts into the LDIF? move LDAP service to new server

I set it up originally from a web page describing how to set up an LDAP server for use with MS Outlook clients (which never worked) Is there any (easy to follow) instructions anywhere to tell me how to back up this service and restore it onto a

updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?
Hello, I plan to update my samba-3.0.22/openldap-2.3.24 to samba-3.0.34/openldap-2.4.15 and I'm currently testing it. This is on FreeBSD. My idea is : 1) slapcat the openldap server and save the various tdb files. 2) deinstall samba and openldap and wipe out the bdb files 3) install the newer versions 4) slapadd to the new openldap server This seems to work in my test lab. During my tests I also built a new domain afresh and realized that the sambaDomainNa...

SAMBA + OPENLDAP - Getent - Please help :)
I have setup a SAMBA + OPENLDAP server following Samba-3 By Example, but I have run into several problems. All the tests described in the Chapter 6 such as pdbedit -Lv, slapcat, and ldapsearch -x -b give the desired results. But, getent can't read passwd or group information from ldap backend. I have done my best to solve the problem, but it just doesn't work. I have compiled the nss_ldap from Idealx and configured the /etc/ldap.conf as well as nsswitch.conf accor...

Samba 3.0 PDC + LDAP: Workstation account disappearing
...version 220-1. The problem is this: Yesterday suddenly a user from a workstation already joined to the domain could not log on any more. The log message was: Workstation HPDX02$: no account in domain Digging into LDAP I've found that the entry in the LDAP DB exists (I can see it with "slapcat"), but the strange thing is the following: - from "getent passwd" I can see the hpdx02$ user Output: hpdx02$:x:1128:515:Computer:/dev/null:/bin/false - "finger hpdx02$" reports this: Login: hpdx02$ Name: Computer Directory: /dev/null...
