Access problem: root Ok, but not home
I've just done an out-of-the-box RHEL6 (SL6, actually) install, but can't get the Samba config quite right. system-config-samba has gone in RHEL6, which hasn't helped. If I set up a root section: [root] comment = SL6 / path = / writeable = yes valid users = paul then I can access '/' from XP without problems. If...

Puppetmaster with apache/passenger on SL6
Dear experts, Since I''ve moved my *puppetmaster* form SL5 (Scientific Linux) to SL6 with SELinux on, I''m facing loads of trouble. I also move away from WEBrick to apache/passenger, following the instruction here: http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/1/wiki/Using_Passenger > and I can''t start httpd any more. It fails with this: Starting httpd: (98)Add...

xm attach-block reboots entire server
I'm still trying to get xen working before Centos 6 and KVM just for experience. I seem to be able to do most of what I what with VMs, but I've run into another problem with CD/DVDs. I can get a DVD mounted on the host domain just fine, but when I try and attach-block to a running guest VM, the entire server reboots. I've tried many different commands versions based on what Google

I have RHel6. How does that turn into Centos 6?
...nd and search to change the characters "RedHat" to "Paul". What else would I have to do? Which of the RPM files in RH6 have "proprietary" software in them? Those cannot be re-distributed as is? I figure there must be something, because I installed the test version of SL6 back in January and it locked up in disk recognition, whereas RH6 did not. So the Rhel 6 folks know some secrets stuff. So, obviously, to create Centos 6, oops, Paul Linux 6, I have to isolate the non-GPL software and then replace it with something workable. After that, what am I legally require...

failing to install LibreOffice 6.3.0.4
..."yum >> localinstall >> *.rpm" and yum spews the list of filenames (with the word "examining" >> in front >> of each file) then says "nothing to do". > > Do you have anu version of libreoffice already installed? Hi Fred I'm running SL6 and SL7 and I have just installed LibreOffice 6.3.0.4 OK in both. It should be just the same in CentOS. It's best to do yum remove libreoffice* first to get rid of any earlier version, then go to the folder where you have all the new rpms and do yum install *.rpm -- Cheers & God bless...

CentOS 6: what's the status?
Hello listmates, So, what's the story with CentOS 6? It is supposed to be out by now, or coming out soon, or so I heard - but yet there seems to be no mention of it at http://centos.org/ . Does anybody know what's up with that? Thanks. Boris.

Virtualization platform choice
Some may be bored with the subject - sorry... Still not decided about virtualization platform for my "webhotel v2" (ns, mail, web servers, etc.). KVM would be a natural way to go, I suppose, only it is too bad CentOS 6 will not be out in time for me - I guess KVM would be more mature in CentOS 6. Any experience with the free "VMware vSphere Hypervisor"?. (It was formerly

Libvirt with multipath devices and/or FC on NPIV
...e last couple of days and I would really like to make it right and kick some VMware ass. By the way, all my hosts are Fedora 14, with kernel 2.6.37 (rebuild of the one for Fedora 15 from koji, because there was a small glitch with Qlogic's driver in the stock 2.6.35). Most of my guests will be SL6,CentOS5/6(when it arrives) and a couple of windows XP guests (but I'm not really concerned with that). Thanks for the support in advance P.S. please keep me in CC, as I'm not on the list. Thank you -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://...

EL 6 rollout strategies? (Scientific Linux)
I was wondering what feedback might be offered by the CentOS community on their experiences using Scientific Linux? I'm a long-time Centos user, and am basically happy with CentOS. I understand there are delays getting EL 6 out. We have been long anxious to roll out EL 6 as soon as it's ready, but our time window for rollout is looming and we will need to act. (for business reasons,

Smart-UPS staying in OB after power return
Hi list, UPS is a Smart-UPS 3000 RM (SU3000RM3U, ups.firmware 92.11.D, ups.mfr.date 12/14/99) with brand-new batteries. NUT is 2.6.5 running on SL6 (RHEL6 clone) from EPEL packages. 'upsc' output pasted at bottom. I'm not very familiar with UPSs in general or this model in particular, and it's doing things I don't expect. I have done my homework, and read UPS user manual, googled much, read most NUT manuals, read up to &...

We have started seeing index corruption ever since we upgraded (we believe) our imap servers from SL6 to Centos 7. Mail/Indexes are stored on Netapps mounted via NFS. We have 2 lvs servers running surealived in dr/wlc, 2 directors and 6 backend imap/pop servers. Most of the core dumps I've looked at for different users are like "Backtrace 2" with some variations on folder path. T...
