Format for giving examples of commands
Hello,
Is there a standard format for quoting examples of commands to be
entered by the user?
I've given the following example commands:
cd /tmp
wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-static
cd /opt
tar xjvf /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2
rm /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.tar.bz2
ln -s skype_staticQT-4.0.0.7 skype
Someone changed them to add prompts:
[root at host]# cd /tmp
[root at host]# wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-static
[root at host]# cd /opt
[root at host]# tar xjvf /tmp/skype_static-4.0.0.7.t...

Skype version for CentOS 5.3
Which is the best version of skype to install in CentOS 5.3? skype.i586
2.0.0.72-fc5 from the skype repo or skype 2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm from
the 'skype for linux beta' downloads section of the skype website?

Proposed change to HowTos/Skype
In the section for CentOS-5, it would be nice if the following
alternative method for running Skype on CentOS-5 were presented:
You can download a statically linked version of Skype which will work
in CentOS-5 from
http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.1.047.tar.bz2
I think it's a little bit silly that the first recommendation for
running skype on CentOS-5 is to install a new version of libstdc++!
Hopefully the version I've linked to will remain available directly
through skype's homepage, and if not, some public mirror will arise....

skype on 5.7
Earlier last year I had a 5.7 system running with skype. It worked
fine. Later last year I had to reinstall my entire system. I didn't
install skype then. Yesterday I tried to find a version of skype to use
on 5.7, but couldn't find one on skype.com; there's no version for
RH/CentOS 5.7. Does anyone know where a working skype can be found?
Thanks.

Skype and problem with ALSA mixer driver?
...ersions, I haven't yet been able to get it working fully with CentOS
5.3 - the playback sound works OK but I can't get the mic working. I
previously used the skype version installed with yum from the skype repo
but thought maybe this was faulty, so have just installed the static
version (cd skype_static-2.1.0.81). However, the mic still doesn't work
and I've notice the following (repeated) error messages on the command
line (currently this version has to be executed from the command line):
snd_pcm_avail_update() returned a value that is exceptionally large:
203032 bytes (1057 ms).

Rebuild binary rpm package:
cd ~/rpmbuild/SPECS
rpmbuild -bb skype.spec
* Actually, skype is _redistributable_, pld-linux ships it on it's
spins, but as far I understood it is somewhat problematic to come to
agreement with Skype.
P.S: spec file is loosely based on pld-linux...

Skype For CentOS 6.4
Hey all. Does anyone know if there is a newer version of Skype than
skype-2.1.0.81 available for CentOS 32 bit? Recent updates to Skype on
other platforms has been causing video connection issues in the last few
weeks.
