but I imagine there is a more efficient way of doing this. I wanted to
bring this to the community''s attention, see if anyone agrees with me
that this check should be added, and find out if someone with more
skillz than I could provide a better solution.
Thanks!

Stopping services
I''m back to getting stuff to run as a Windows service, and am running
in to a problem. My service (a Daemon ruby class) installs and starts
fine, but when I try to stop it, I get:
C:\workspaces\default\tahoe>ruby script\service stop
script/service:77:in `stop'': An exception occurred in the service

how to keep up with R?
Dear Listers,
I've been a big fan of R since graduate school. After working in the
industry for years, I haven't had many opportunities to use R and am mainly
using SAS. However, I am still forcing myself really hard to stay close to R
by reading R-help and books and writing R code by myself for fun. But by and
by, I start realizing I have hard time to keep up with R and am afraid that

Seeking an R intern
Hi folks,
I wanted to reach out to the community here and let everyone know that we
are currently seeking an intern with mad "R" skillz. The intern would build
an "R" package to enable bioinformaticians to frictionlessly interact with
Syapse, a cloud-based web application that accelerates biomedical product
development. A more complete job description is below. Please let me know if
you or someone you know is well-qualifi...

Once again, let me know your thoughts.
Ooh, and if someone has a resource for gpl'd graphics (I'm looking for a
nicer, slightly more glassy looking progressbar - I think I've reached
the limit of my PhotoShop skillz!)

Create! Syntax
Hey All,
Two questions.
Firstly, what is the difference between create and create!
I see that create is document in the api
http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveRecord/Base.html#M002269
What is the difference between the two of these functions and where is the
create! function defined.
Also,
What are the differences between these two calls?

Query Offset Parameter problem
Greetings,
I''m trying to make a simple logging application that just displays the
last few rows of information in the log. In order to do this, I am
trying to use the ":offset" option for find. However, I am not getting
the results I expect.
For testing purposes, the query is being run against a table (MySQL)
that contains 11 records. According to the RoR documentation,

Forcing domU''s to never hibernate
Hey, list --
Recently we had to reboot some of our dom0''s. We were confused after doing
so to discover that some of the resident domU''s had not actually rebooted.
Some of the domU''s still had very long uptimes (weeks/months), despite the
dom0 having an uptime of just minutes.
Apparently, when the "shutdown -r now" command was issued, the dom0 was able

Only 5 tests out of 376 currently failing!
Good news! SuperRedCloth is down to just five failing tests! I was
down to 10 or so in mid-February but then I added test cases from
"The official reference manual for Textile 2", which added 97 new
tests, many of them failing. I''m happy to say, they''re almost all
passing now.
Four of these last five I just need to check with you on before I
