Multiple groups barplot
Hi everyone,
I have a certain number of samples and I want to visualize the groups those samples belong to.
For example, suppose to have three variables, age, sex, and smoker/nonsmoker, and three samples, S1, S2, S3.
S1 is 35, male, nonsmoker
S2 is 24, female, nonsmoker
S3 is 24, female, smoker
at the end I have the following data frame:
S1 S2 S3
age 35 24 30
sex M F F
smk N N S

detecting entry into a recursive function
Given a function that calls itself, what's the best way to detect the
entry point? The best I came up with is:
IsEntryPoint <- function(){
par <- sys.call(-1L)[[1]]
grandpar <- sys.call(-2L)[[1]]
!identical(par, grandpar)
}
but this won't work for functions that don't directly call themselves;
for example, in this one the paste gets inserted in the

Analyzing large transition matrix
Let's say you have a dataframe of car trade-ins. For example, each row
contains
oldcar newcar qty
and a typical entry could be
lexus bmw 1
I put the qty column to allow for fleet purchases, where one purchase
may convert multiple cars at once.
I'd like to show what's going on. I could do a histogram of newcar to
show the frequency each type of car is bought. If there

Tabulating using arbitrary numbers of factors
Dear R-help,
First of all, thank you VERY much for any help you have time to offer. I
greatly appreciate it.
I would like to write a function that, given an arbitrary number of factors
from a data frame, tabulates the number of occurrences of each unique
combination of the factors. Cleary, this works:
> table(horse,date,surface)
<SNIP>
, , surface = TURF
