Many index files
I''m using acts_as_ferret and have indexed a model with acts_as_ferret
:fields => [:name, :ascii_name, :alt_names], :single_index => true.
Now in the index directory more than 95.000 files are generated! The
number of tuples I''m indexing is approx. 86.000.
I can''t remember this from earlier ferret/acts_as_ferret versions where
I''ve indexed millions of

Join Linux client to Samba PDC domain

Today I have in one environment
Windows 2003 PDC
Windows XP clients
Linux File Server which is joined to the domain, utilizing winbind,
kerberos etc.
So all clients can connect to the shares in my Linux File Server and
all authentication is handled my winbind -> Windows PDC Singel-Sign-

Now I want the same thing in a different environment
CentOS Samba PDC in domain mode and LDAP
Windows XP and Vista clients joined to the Samba domain

uwb bitrates
Hello
I just wrote a little application using speex. I am compressing and packing singel frames to transmit them. Now I read in the manual, that it's possible to achieve higher bit rates by packing more than one frames at once. Unfortunately there is no table included at the manual, that shows the "real" bitrates of ultra wide band mode. So my question is: Can someone pro...

has_many :conditions
Is it possible to put conditions relative to the current instance in
has_many''s :conditions?
For example, in a forum app:
class Post < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :topic
has_many :self_and_descendants, :class_name => "Post", :order =>
"lft",
:conditions => "topic_id = #{topic_id} AND (lft BETWEEN #{lft} AND

lattice: adding information on number of observations
Dear R-users,
I am using R version 2.9.1 and lattice 0.17-26 under windows.
In a lattice boxplot, I would like to add information on how many observations each singel boxplot is based upon.
For example (the basic plot):
# Begin R-code
library(lattice)
dat <- data.frame(panvar = rep(c("A","B","A","B"), c(3,7,4,6)), grp = rep(c("grp1", "grp2"), c(10,10)), val = rnorm(20))
dat
bwplot(val ~ grp | panvar...

track about whath message the replay is ment for.
Another problem is, that mime-attachments don?t seem to work. This is
especially bad, because some Microsoft Mail-Clients send messages both as
plain text and html..
If the mailing list was distributed as singel messages,

help reading the messages.
.) It would be easier and faster to answer a question - and quote the old
message.
.) Mail-readers which support threading would display things VERY easy to
overlook.

Upgrade Novell 4.11 to Samba 3.0.7 wisdom needed
Has anybody done such a thing as this? I'm looking to make this transition as
smooth as possible. I have the new fileserver up and running, and I'm using
rsync to keep the Novell data current on the Samba server. Any words of
advice on transferring the users and groups and permissions over to the new
server in the least painful way possible? I have some idea that Novell uses

Error: Unknown error (109,49152)]
Hi,
I'm trying to troubleshoot my smb client / server.
I can't access the whole workgroup (No such network name),
but I can search (and find!) every singel client. Even it is possible to
browse and print, but sometimes I get a message that no connection
could be established. A further try succeeds than. Wired!
May anyone give me a hint? Please cc me on all replays cause
I'm currently not subscribed.
Thanks in advance tom

Problem running kde
Hi
I use linux 2.6.8, kde 3.3 and samba 3.0.7 on server
and clients. I use ldap to store user accounts.
On client side I want to use pam_automount to
mount homedirs with pam.
For testing i use a singele pc as server and
client
1. I've created a user test.
2. I've mounted test's homedir with:
mount -t cifs -o username=test //127.0.0.1/test2 /home/test
3. Mounting works correct. I had a problem with a symlink used
by kde because the link fiename contains a ":" with will...

ror/lighttpd - HTML files via port 80 become application/octet-stream?
...ng the port number yields a
valid page. Using port 80 screws up the MIME type.
Any hints would be very much appreciated.
FYI. Server = Debian Sarge
Ruby = 1.8.4
Rails = 1.0.0
Lighttpd = 1.4.8
Postgres = 8.1.2
This box runs no other stuff.

Adding PDU support to NUT
I've recently been working a bit on adding PDU
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_distribution_unit) support in NUT.
Some of you might have seen the Powerman thread, which also deals with
adding more PDUs support:
http://powerman.sourceforge.net/supported.html
The result is that we now have support for 2 Eaton | Powerware ePDUs
(Managed and Monitored iirc, check http://www.epdu.com).

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre2
This version contains a fix to mbr.asm, plus a version of Murali's menu
system, but ported to gcc. Although gcc produces much bigger 16-bit
code (since it's really 32-bit code with prefixes) I figured it would be
much easier for people to deal with since it requires the configuration
to be compiled in.
That being said, it's a *very* powerful menu system, partially *because*

Backups on external USB HDD
Hi,
I'm trying to implement this:
I have:
- A windows 2000 server
- A centos 4 server
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monthly.
The tape drive in the windows server died recently and I decided to
switch to USB external drives. However, the USB controller in the
windows server is only 1.1, so it is very slow.
I didn't want to install a 2.0 USB controller in the
