Cisco device for gatewaying SIP to H323 suitable for ~50 simultanious calls
Hey All,
Our upstream provider requires the use of H323 and after several months
(6!) of having problems with OH323 I've decided it might be worth biting
the bullet and getting a cisco device that can gateway up to
approximately 50 calls from SIP to H323.
Would a 2500 or 2600 series do the job?
Once we get to the point of 50 simultaneous calls hopefully we'll be
able to get something

balancer://mongrel_cluster
A couple of questions please:
What is the benefit of having more than one Mongrel/Rails instance on
the same machine, could one instance not serve as many requests as say
three instances?
Is Mongrel Cluster a Apache add-in (like mod_*) or a separately running
load balancer which runs on a separate port, I could not work it out
from the sample Apache config...

cdr_mysql - would index slow down?
Hi,
I intend to change the cdr_mysql-field "uniqueid",
which seems not to be used so far, to an (not unique)
indexed field and use it later for my own hints and infos.
I don't have very much traffic so far, and I wonder,
if there will appear problems when asterisk is under high
load (100 simultanious calls) and the log table contains
1.000.000 log lines.
This would mean, that

YANS [was?/is?: Tag changes]
YANS: Yet Another Silly Idea
The discussion about tags seems to me to be getting a little silly.
>From my 'newbie' perspective on tag formats, it seems to me that all
tags are arbitrary. I mean, sure, you could add a 'your player
should support this tag in this format', but really, it comes down
to consistency on the Encoder's (person that encoded the file) part

How to use a data T-1?
Depends what you want to do!
Do you want to do VoIP over that T1 to a provider or IP telephones?
Do you want to hook up to the PSTN through that T1 as 24 voice channels,
through a T1 card on your asterisk?
If you want to use the T1 as 24 voice channels, the Telco is going to
have to re-provision the T1 as a voice T1, because currently, presumably
it is one big channel of data. You could have

[RESQUE]Question about queues
I run Resque with x ''general'' queues. With ''general'' I mean a queue that
may run every type of Worker. Or in the Rake command: COUNT=x QUEUE=*
rake resque:work
When a worker runs a job of a specific class, it may not run another job
of the same class simultaniously. This job has to wait until the
previous job has finished before it may start.

Yeah, that's right. If you want the remote speakers to be able to listen to
the other speakers this becomes a little complicated. If you hear your own
voice with a latency more than 1/10 or 1/5 second it becomes very
distracting! This latency really is a problem.

potential enterprise rails project
Hello Rubyists,
I''m in the position of being given the job to design and build a
mission-critical web facing application for a small but growing
enterprise. It is to be used by customers as needed, numbering in
the tens up to the hundreds. It will collect operational data,
particularly in a table around 50 columns wide, and potentially
millions of rows deep, most fields being numerical.

4.8-STABLE Kernel Panic with dummynet options.
I first met this problem when our (60 students) internetgateway refused to
boot its new kernel, it was a 4.7-RELEASE. Then i loaded the old kernel and
went home to check if my 4.8-STABLE does likewise. And the answer was yes!
Both kernels were GENERIC + these options taken from the dummynet man pages:
options DUMMYNET
options NMBCLUSTERS
options HZ

So, I will top quote and inline quote.
Please see my comments inline, below.
