comment on dovecot documentation on PAM
Dear Dovecote devotees, I have been going through dovecot configuration for the first time. I am not an experienced systems administrator so I had to do a left turn to read up about PAM while doing all the configuration for my new webmail service. I found that the writing in the dovecot documentation about PAM to be rather misleading in at least one aspect. The documentation I am specifically

Simplifying similiar sip trunks
I have over 12 sip trunks that are very similiar, like extension 412 below. Is there any way to have a single variable in [general] that contains the 7 lines after 'username=412'? This would reduce clutter in sip.conf. I don't want to put these common lines in [general]. What I have now repeated 12x: [412] username=412 context=default type=friend qualify=yes insecure=very

Service similiar to VoicePulse-Connect?
Are there other providers similiar to VoicePulse-Connect? I signed up and added a $30 credit with them, only to later find out they don't have coverage in the 757 NPA. So hopefully they will refund the $$ since otherwise I won't ever use them since my goal is incoming only, and #2 I'm still without a 757 dialup. I would actually like to find a service that will let me really have the

can someone explain RoR MVC from a C++ or Java perspective?
is a model similiar to a class? and active record is similiar to how Java classes inherit from Object? View is nothing more than an output of a model with HTML? Controller is basically the Main part of the program? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

New package "proxy" for distances and similiarities
Dear useRs, a new package for computing distance and similarity matrices made it to CRAN, and will propagate to the mirrors soon. It includes an enhanced version of "dist()" with support for more than 40 popular similarity and distance measures, both for auto- and cross-distances. Some important ones are implemented in C. The proximity measures are stored in a registry which can

XTerm & OpenSSH question w/ freezing.
Sometimes when I use openssh (latest) and do find . or ls -lR /dev or similiar, my xterm 'freezes up', there is no way to fix it but to kill the xterm usually. This NEVER occurs in telnet. The error is completely reproducable when you come across it. ie: one may just be browsing the filesystem and when you come across this problem, you can launch another xterm and the EXACT same thing

/etc/aliases file wildcard
I have been trying to find out if the /etc/aliases file can accept wildcards in the user name I was hoping that a line like or similiar: machine*: myaccount would take any name matching machine* and forward onto the myaccount mailbox. man aliases didnt really help me nor did I find anything else. Is there a way to pattern match in /etc/aliases with an * or something? Thanks, Jerry

Transferring system to new RAID drive
> Is there a document with instructions for this? > I've had smartd warnings that a hard disk in my server is sick, > so I am installing a new drive (in addition to the old). Not to hijack a thread but on a similiar note. I have a Centos 4.x server with a 500G sata drive working fine except for disk I/O issues at peak times. I have copied it to a new drive before using 'dd

following Appendix A results in "plot.new has not been called yet"
Hello. I was exploring the R software package and received the error message "plot.new has not been called yet" when following "Appendix A A Sample Session" of R-intro.pdf. I searched the message archives and found no similiar report to mine. I am using R on CentOS and I am using the latest from R-project, version 2.2.0. Migration
Hi! I'm currently running an small imap-server on Dovecot 2.2.4 but will retire that server. I've set up an new server with Dovecot 2.3.4 and will migrate the mailboxes (maildir-format) from the old to the new server. I'm planning to restructure the accounts a bit when migrating so I need to move them one by one. Its only a few so thats not a big issue. Both servers are using

[LLVMdev] [lld] Verifying the Architecture of files read
Hi, It is needed that lld verifies the input to the linker. For example : a x86 ELF file can be given to lld when the target is x86_64. Similiarly with other flavors. I was thinking to have a varargs function in the LinkingContext that would be overridden by each of the LinkingContexts to verify files after being read. The reader would call the varargs function in the LinkingContext and raise an error if the input is not suitable with th...

Mongrel + Lighttpd
Hi guys, I''ve been chasing a problem in my web-stack: Lighttpd -> Mongrel -> Rails, and found a problem with the interaction of Lighttpd and Mongrel. If a request takes more than 5 seconds, Lighty will retry it - and then the requests / responses get mixed up in Lighty and it returns a bad response to the client. Not good. I''m convinced that the problem is

[LLVMdev] LLVM and Interrupt Service Routines.
Hi, Apparently, there is no explicit support for ISRs in the llvm framework. I could not find a matching attribute that can be used to mark a function as an ISR, which codegen and optimizer can use accordingly. ISRs aren't called explicity from any function, so currently the optimizer deletes them. We are planning to introduce a new "interrupt" attribute (to be modeled similiar to

Start and Restart R over SSH
Hi, I have some big calculations in R to be done. Since I can use R on a server with ssh, i was wondering if I can reopen a R Shell after exiting ssh. I don't want to use the batch mode and nohup doesn't work. I want to use something like ssh user at server R ---do something in R and start calculation --- close ssh but let R remain on the server, doing the calculation ssh user at
