tracking online users
Let''s say I have an application and I want to create an admin program that will show me who is currently online using the application. I don''t know the best way to do this. Assuming I am storing my sessions in the default PStore, I don''t suppose there is any method that lists all the active sessions, is there? The only way I can think of to do this is to setup a

Kernel-utils stupidities (readahead and cpuspeed)
...R variable, but no attempt is made to insmod this, so even if this is set, cpuspeed still fails. A simple fix is to check for the presence of the above /sys entry, and if that is missing, modprobe $DRIVER. Without this, cpuspeed will never work on my systems. Does it work elsewhere? CentOS-5 - kmod-gfs dependency issue?
...x my problem - where the RPM I want to install depends on an RPM that can't be installed? (well, I'll be able to jam it in, of course, but...) Is this just me doing something silly (capability-upgrading a system after having run an update), or is this an actual dependency issue? -S -- Simen Thoresen, Dolphin ICS Systems Administration and Wulfkit Support

Mysql login-problem after recent 4.1.20 upgrade (CentOS4.3, x86_64)
...h --oldpackage mysql-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.* \ mysql-server-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.x86_64.rpm \ mysql-devel-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.x86_64.rpm fixed it again. This was with a current CentOS 4.3 install, running in x86_64 mode. Can anyone confirm this? I'll see if I can do this on i386 as well. Yours, -S -- Simen Thoresen, Dolphin ICS

Yum upgrade to 4.4 problem
...As I can play around a bit more on this machine, I tried doing a yum upgrade (without specifying samba) and it behaves the same (ie yum consuming increasing amounts of memory while "Reading repository metadata (etc)". Has anyone else experienced and been able to resolve this? -S -- Simen Thoresen, Dolphin ICS Systems Administration and Wulfkit Support

up to 3000 lines capacity asterisk Deployment
...hat can do up to 3000+ lines within a geographic region similar to a campus. The client wants analog lines for extensions and maybe VoIP for some backhaul traffic while the other traffic would be carrid via E1 channels. The client has other proposals to buy a mid, range telco switch from alcatel or simens but i am trying to convince him otherwise. Though i have deployed Asterisk PBX in mid range offices (like up to 60 lines), i have never deployed anything of this magnitude. Can anyone help me by giving me information on how this sort of deployment would work, keeping in mind that the extensions wo...

CentOS 4.4 - added disk prevents system from booting past initrd
...v/sda1 is an extended partition, with /dev/sda5 being the partition that holds the filesystem. Thus fsck'ing /dev/sda1 does not bring any useful. But why? Why does the initrd insist on fsck'in /dev/sda1, when it should check LABEL=/? Is there something I'm not getting here? -S -- Simen Thoresen, Dolphin ICS Systems Administration and Wulfkit Support

iSCSI target in CentOS 4?
...looking into iSCSI, and I'm wondering if there is an iSCSI target (I've found the initiator in iscsi-initiator-utils) that ships with CentOS, or if not, what the recommended target would be. I'd like to export either a partition or (preferably) a file-as-a-partition. Yours, -S -- Simen Thoresen, Wulfkit Support, Dolphin ICS http://www.tysland.com/~simentt/cluster

Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI NCQ-issues
...NCQ bug. My workaround, which was suggested somewhere else, was to disable NCQ; (in rc.local) for D in sd{a,b,c,d,e,f} ; do echo 1 > /sys/block/$a/device/queue_depth done This resolves the above issue, and from several times an hour, I have not experienced it since (~30h). mkinitrd-4.2.1.3-1 unsuitable for 2.6.13+ kernels?

Kernel-upgrade breaks forcedeth-driver (CentOS 4)
...Also, the above system was attempted installed with CentOS 5 (.0 and later with 5.1), but this was aborted due to 'networking problems', so I am thinking that the problem possibly persists at least as late as the CentOS 5.1 install-kernel. ACPI reboot-issue (CentOS 4)
...same symptom after a BIOS upgrade. On these acpi=off does not cause other problems, so this is no issue for us now. Any suggestions? I think I understand that turning ACPI off basically turns APM on, and that APM reboot works. Is there a way to do reboot with APM instead of ACPI? Missing value handling for felm function in lfe package
Dear All, I am trying to use the felm function in the lfe package. However it does not seem to deal with missing values the way the lm function does. I wish to tell it na.omit or na.action = na.omit but it does not recognize this. I need to allow for missing values as I have different specifications and don't want to remove observations for all. Help on this will be greatly appreciated!
