samba authenticates only against the primary group of a user?
...is a non welcoming behaviour that can only be tackled by allowing @everyone to have read access to the shares - unwelcomed too. So finally is there a way to make samba try and authenticate a user against ALL of his groups (and not just the primary one)? Thank you very much for your help Thanassis Silis I

how to access public shares without password even when security = user
Hello everyone, I have always thought that with security = user , a login window will pop-up and you must insert credentials to access the shares of a samba server. Yet here I am sitting in front of a QNAP system file server, running Samba 3.5.2. When I type in the address of the samba server, I am presented with the top level shares (public or not). can't browser a samba server from a specific pc in the network

can't connect to an Eaton Powerware 9155 over a usb-serial adapter
hello everyone, I've been testing the NUT solution as opposed to the undocumented LanSafe application to control my Eaton UPS. I am on a Slackware 13.37 system with a 2.6.37.6 kernel. NUT version is 2.4.3 . I installed the tarball by compiling it directly on my system (as a slackbuild package). accessing samba shares from a winpc sometimes as a readonly user and sometimes with writing abilities
hello everyone. i am trying to setup samba and there is a whole lot of option in doing things.. so i got somewhat overloaded:) the idea is that i want in my home network to setup a file server running samba (its a slackware v11 machine) and have all my music/video/office files on the server.. now, from a windows side i know that when u log onto a pc you will probably be asked to input a passwd.
