Errors transferring forestdns and domaindns FSMO roles
Hai, can you post the exact error again, or is is really exact like the January link.
drs_utils.py on debian should be these.
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/drs_utils.py
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/drs_utils.pyc
And now i see whats the differrence here.
Rowland showd in january.
/usr/local/samba/lib/python2.7/site-packages/samba/drs_utils.py
/usr/lib/ python2.7/dist-packages/samba/drs_utils.py
I see ... dist-packages
And site-packages
Rowland can you verify this again, so we can find where in this command:

[Fwd: samba 30alpha21 + NT4/2K WS-s]
...logon home = \\server\%U\
logon script = START.BAT
/home/samba/netlogn/START.BAT exists, line breaks are in dos -style ...
if I log into NT4 on 2K ws, then i can mount \\pdc1\netlogon share and
run START.BAT there..
So what the heck can it be?
Another thing was that smbgroupedit -v showd several Domain Admins and
Domain Users group (with different SIDs).. So i took experimental step
and deleted some of them, leaving exactly one of every group..
Can this be somehow connected to 1st problem?
Also samba complained that:
get_domain_user_groups: primary gid of user [john] is not a Dom...

WG: WG: Strange!!! Clients only log on to samba bdc
When I stop the BDC all clients log on to the PDC. And to my confusion
when I restarted the BDC today and made a testparm on both PDC and BDC
both showd role domain pdc --> Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC
Here my smb.confs:

openldap with nss_ldap and smb domain controller panic on Fedora 4
...passwd' only returned entries from '/etc/passwd'. So I had to install PADL's nss-ldap libraries from their web-site and ran 'ldconfig' even though rpm -qa showed that PADLs nss libraries were installed.
This is when i realized i had a problem. now 'getent passwd' showd my LDAP entries, but I could not restart samba. The error is shown below. My ssh failed too. After supplying the password, the ssh login screen just closed off. On restart of Fedora, even xdm failed to start. I don't know if this is a Fedora bug or if the nss software did something to it. I...

winbind causing huge timeouts/delays since 4.8
...ge is invalid.
The intial reason we hitted this after upgrade from samba-4.7 to 4.8 is
a script that frequentyl checks the system for changes and a final
"chown root.wheel FILE" freezes the system for approx a minute (simliar
to "wbinfo -i foo"). The winbind and also sssd log showd that both were
asked about a user "root.wheel" which is another question, why the
notation which usually (under linux) indicates user.group and not an
account with a dot in it's name - but more to glibc related.
Removing winbind from nss fixed the freeze, but isn't an option. I...

Errors transferring forestdns and domaindns FSMO roles
I am attempting to transfer the all FSMO roles from an old DC to our new DC.
Both DCs are running Samba 4.7.3. I have transferred the Schma,
Infrastructure, RID, PDC and Naming roles without issue.
unfortunately, the forestdns and domaindns roles are giving me grief.
Here is the output of the commands
root at dc1:~# samba-tool fsmo transfer --role=forestdns
ldb_wrap open of secrets.ldb
