Rails is the devil on your client-side shoulder
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the inflamatory title, just trying to get your attention.
Ive been thinking alot about the JavaScript helpers and I''ve written

Killing runaway PBX
How do I stop asterisk when it is in a bad mood? It keeps dialing
extensions and won't listen! I tried kill <PID>. No go. I don't want to
have to reboot again. Thanks.

Why no forum app in rails yet?
Hi Guys,
So creating a forums application seems like something that rails can
handle easily and well, and whatever implementation that came to
fruition would be head and shoulders above existing products like
vBulliten and phpBB.
Even the existing rails forums are using php-based forum products! An
insult if you ask me.
So my question -- is there any current development of a rails-based

FSCK
Hello
I have a newbie question, given a centos 5 installation,
An 5 very large disk arrays ( 2.5Tbytes each ) -
Is there a way to suspend or stop the fsck during the boot up?
The system seems to pick the most inopportune time to decide to reach
the check count limit... and with this many disks, a reboot takes
several hours... which is an eternity when your boss is looking over
your shoulders

Testing that named_scope is defined
Hi guys,
I''m just beginning to use RSpec and I ran into the issue of testing a
named_scope. I''m not actually trying to test its behavior, as it''s not
my code, but I wanted to test at least that it''s defined. I tried
doing this:
describe Post, ".most_recent" do
it "should be defined" do
Post.method_defined?(:most_recent).should be_true

code that will use two data sets which differ in size.
Hi all,
This is a really basic question but I can't figure it out.
I am trying to write a piece of code that will use two datasets, z and m..
This code is meant to assign the mean of selected values in dataset m to a new column z$c in datset z but the rows and columns of the two data sets differ.
I managed to write this down but think I am missing something standard but basic,I will really

Rails 1.1.1: Fixing a slew of minors (but you must still freeze Typo)
Rails 1.1 was a big upgrade with a lot of new features and we''ve been
working hard since its release to polish off the kinks revealed after
it was deployed to the masses. Rails 1.1.1 contains fixes for things
like Prototype memory leaks in IE 6, Oracle adapter runnings, and a
number of compatibility tweaks to make most older applications work.
This release still doesn''t work

Programming Tools CTV
I'd strongly second the notion of using github. The biggest advantage
is that others can easily contribute changes through pull requests
which lifts much of the burden from your shoulders.

converting a character string to a subscripted numeric variable
Dear R-helpers:
It seems that I have a mental block. (Some say that it sits atop my
shoulders.)
For reasons too tedious to retell I have an R object:

(no subject)
I am trying to get away from courier imap because it is flaky the way it
uses FAM (or gamin in my case), and the developers seem to have a chip on
their collective shoulder, and it is too complex. I found dovecot because
it is ships with CentOS 4 (ie Red Hat Enterprise 4). It looks like just
what I need: simple, fast. But I can't use it! I can't authenticate. If

CentOS 6 Active Directory 2008 R2 kickstart
Hi All,
Anyone have a working CentOS 6 kickstart file that they are using to bind a host to Active Directory 2008 R2? I'm working on a full AD/Linux environment and would like to stand on the shoulders of others if they are already doing such a thing. I'm thinking I need to enable LDAP and Kerberos, although Winbind might also be the key here.
The config will ideally get the UID and

Ubuntu: World of Warcraft 3.3.5a OpenGL and Intel GMA issue
ok, I'll get straight to the point:
I'm trying to run World of Warcraft (Version 3.3.5 Build 12340) and I have an Intel GMA 4500MHD Integrated chipset, and I can login just fine, but when it tries to render a character, it crashes and spits out an error via the WowError.exe, and if I don't use OpenGL, it can play, but the FPS will spike horribly at random times, and all player

Options for paid Samba (4) support
Hi,
After years of Samba 3 working great, we are trying to move a testing Samba
4 AD system into production and have been making progress, but keep hitting
show stoppers. (For example, roaming profiles with redirected folders
usually work for most users. However, some users consistently can't see
their profile on some machines, despite the profile and redirected folders

Ajax.Request: onFailure vs. onException
Hello All,
I''m trying to capture the exception message that my server application
is providing in response to my Ajax.Request. However, I''m confused as
to when onFailure is fired vs. onException. The onException handler has
access to the javascript exception object and I''d understood that it was
only called when the dispatch fails. Not sure what exactly that means
