The only way I can get it to work is using as.formula: as.expression(as.formula(paste("~", paste(letters[1:3], collapse="+")))) but this requires the expression to

R course in Scotland
(apologies if this is the wrong list) I'm a bioinformatician looking for a course in using R, in particular the tools for working with the genome - I've heard they're lightning fast. I'm in Glasgow, but I've tried the Robertson centre for biostatistics and they use minitab. If anybody knows of a course, I would be grateful. Glasgow or Edinburgh would be preferable, but

Is there anyone knowing how to run this Perl script: "import_smbpasswd.pl" in examples/LDAP directory? I don't know Perl. :( In addition, is there more information/tutorial of LDAP available on line? Thank you very much.

Omnibus main effects in summary.lme?
Hello, I've been running some HLMs using the lme function quite happily; it does what I want and I'm pretty sure I understand it. The issue is that I'm currently trying to estimate a model with a 14-level "nusiance" factor as an independent variable...which makes the output quite ugly. All I'm really interested in is the question of whether these factor as a whole

defunct smbd processes on SGI
Hello We are running samba on SGI/SUN/HP fileservers. We saw a problem on the SGI fileservers. After a while a lot of defunct smbd deamons were hanging and occupying the slots in the process table. We saw the problem with IRIX 5.2 and samba 1.9.16p11 and IRIX 6.2 and samba 1.9.17.p4 . Has anybody seen this problem before? This is a serious problem, because the smbd daemons are filling the

I tried to put a hardcoded path to Rscript into the
