rsync anti-FUD
I'm working on a commercial project that would benefit immensely from the use of rsync. However, I cannot convince management that rsync is a worthy tool due to the rote "it's shareware, it's not supported" FUD. Are there any documented, corportate users of rsync? Testimonials? In short, how do I drag this risk-averse group out of the FTP age into the rsync present? /p

Windows Help files
I have a shareware product that I sell that is windows only (due to the development system, it never will be ported to Mac or Linux). I have been testing it on WINE for about two years and now it almost works with latest version. I want to pass on some info to the makers of the compiler (so mine and other apps will run under wine). One problem I have is that the CHM Help system does not work on

starcraft runs faster from winedbg than from wine?
Hi, I have discovered i can run starcraft at (almost) full speed on my system. This only works one time, directly after reboot. When tried a second time it's all choppy again. My guess is there're some stale wine processes after the first attempt. When i reboot and start wine instead of winedebug the game video performance is choppy. When i start the game with winedbg after that The

tftpd server
Hi In the pxelinux page, is referred that the tftpd server from http://tftpd32.jounin.net as working with pxelinux. However, from the tests I've made, it seems that the 'tsize' option is not supported. Anyone has knowledge of a working TFTPD server that runs on Windows NT4? p.s. it can be shareware, I just want to test it with NT4, I have had success with the 'builtin'

Synchronization in Mac OS X
I apologize if this is a little off-topic, but there has been some general discussion on this list regarding file sync options in OS X that will handle both the UNIX- and Mac-specific aspects of the filesystem. There are some shareware apps out there, but none works to my satisfaction in terms of handling the data and providing the features I need to keep my laptop and desktop synchronized.

Confusion over xiph.org license
Hello there, My situation is as follows: =we make commercial freeware/shareware games =our games are released without code and can NOT be modified or have projects based on it. =would like to use Speex functions (library) within the game for some vocal sound effects, it would basically be a part of the EXE itself. Under the Xiph.org license, it states: "Redistributions in binary form must

X-Windows client for MS-Win2K
An intermittent need to connect to a CentOS4 development box from a MS-Win2K workstation using X-Windows has developed here. However, I cannot seem to find a cheap (read free) X-windows client for MS- Windows to accommodate this. This seems very odd to me, displaying no doubt my profound ignorance of the issues involved. The few shareware versions that I have located expect registration

hello Excel... (native/Package/BETA)
Dear list members I am pleased to annonce that I have just finished a native Excel reader/writer. It's wrapped up in two packages: either "xlsReadWrite" (open source) or the slightly beefed-up "xlsReadWritePro" (shareware). Working with Excel data is now as easy as writing read.xls and write.xls. On Ubuntu (or Debian) do you will need to install the following: apt-get mingw32 mingw32-binutils mingw32-runtime wine To configure and build do: ./configure

Can't install Fixfoto
Hi, I'm using the current version of Ubuntu, and the Wine version the system down loaded. I'd like to use my photo application "Fixfoto" but for some reason I can't get it to work. Widespread implementation of rsync
I came to know about rsync algorithm for transferring files few days ago. The algorithm provides an efficient way to transfer files from one computer to another over a slow communication link. But I have been wondering why don't we see a widespread implementation of rsync in most popular file transfer tools. I know that the algorithm was conceived by Andrew Tridgell and Paul Mackerras from

Keeping file creation time on Samba file shares
Hello. I am managing an IT environment with a mixed populatiion of WindowsXP clients, Win2000 servers and a fast growing number of Samba servers (both Fedora and RedHat --- latest versions). I have run into a problem when applications on the XP clients store data on the Samba shares and the NTFS metadata "file creation time" is lost. For the applications used, this metadata is

dbPowerAMP, CDex / Re: Freeware windows ogg audio CD bur ner?
There's another nice Windows program in the pipeline: Feurio 2.0 (www.feurio.de) will have OggVorbis and MonkeyAudio support. Feurio is a all-in-one solution for CD ripping/burning specialized on audio CD. Feurio supports high speed, high-quality on-the-fly ripping and encoding, and on-the-fly decoding/burning, too. Feurio supports allmost all available CD writers, and there is a

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any pointers would be great. The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse NetBios name lookup by
