ZFS CIFS, smb.conf (smb/server) and LDAP
All;
I am deeply sorry if this topic has been rehashed, checksummed,
de-duplicated and archived before.
But I just need a small clarification.
/etc/sfw/smb.conf is necessary only for smb/server to function properly
but is smb/server SMF service necessary for ZFS sharesmb to work
I am trying to setup an open solaris file server acting as a Windows PDC
with SAMBA/LDAP integration on the open solaris box. (with ZFS of course...)
I read a BLOG which says ZFS CIFS has nothing to do with smb/server but
it seems i cannot get ZFS sharesmb to work without smb/server SMF...

issue with sharesmb and sharenfs properties enabled on the same pool
My system is OS 8.11, updated to dev build 105. I have two pools
constructed from iscsi targets with around 5600 file-systems in each.
I was able to enable NFS sharing and CIFS/SMB sharing on both pools,
however, after a reboot the SMB shares comes up but the NFS server
service does not and eventually times out after about 3 hours of
trying.
Are there any know issues with large number of NFS

Status of Samba/ZFS integration
I''ve tried to set up a SAMBA file server that acts completely identical with a Microsoft Windows 2000 or 2003 one. First of all, the problem with the ACI ordering is simple:
The Microsoft ACI specification imposes that the DENY ACIs are put on top. It can be solved with a simple chmod.
Problem no.2 the Samba NFSv4 ACL module doesn''t interpret owner@, group@, everyone at . While

Confusion regarding ''zfs send''
...| zfs recv -d <new fs>
However, according to the man page, "The current values of properties
[..] are set when the stream is received." With dedup, this isn''t an
issue because the property doesn''t exist on the source fs so it can be
inherited.
For properties like sharesmb, it appears to be more awkward. The
options seem to be either set up the target pool with the correct
properties, then zfs send the earliest snapshot, then all others with
''zfs send -I'', or disable the property on the source, then use ''zfs
send -R''.
The first op...

I can''t seem to get the pool to export...
root at nas:~# zpool export -f raid
cannot export ''raid'': pool is busy
I''ve disabled all the services I could think of. I don''t see anything accessing it. I also don''t see any of the filesystems mounted with mount or "zfs mount". What''s the deal? This is not the rpool, so I''m not booted off it or anything like that.

I tried every trick I could think of to get the sharing up and running again, including the tip Rob helpfully shared above, as well as;
rebooting
zfs set sharesmb=off tank/fs
zfs set sharesmb=on tank/fs
zpool export tank
zpool import tank
sharemgr start -P smb zfs
svcadm disable smb/server
svcadm enable -r smb/server
In various combinations, all with zero success. After a lot of playing around, I discovered the ACE combination that would secure my filesyste...

Huge difference in reporting disk usage via du and zfs list. Fragmentation?
Do we have enormous fragmentation here on our X4500 with Solaris 10, ZFS Version 10?
What except zfs send/receive can be done to free the fragmented space?
One ZFS was used for some month to store some large disk images (each 50GByte large) which are copied there with rsync. This ZFS then reports 6.39TByte usage with zfs list and only 2TByte usage with du.
The other ZFS was used for similar

Some Samba questions
1) How can I check which ZFS filesystems still have sharesmb=on? I
can''t seem to recursively list that property or other properties
properly.
2) Currently I am having issues with the "extended" ACLs (NFS
v4/Windows compliant?) setup by default - I am mounting it as the user
that owns/supposed to own the files. Can this be turned off and t...

Problems with send/receive
Hi Folks --
I''m an old ZFS user, but brand new to send/receive for backing up. I''ve created a zfs filesystem
using:
zfs create \
-o mountpoint=/usr/local \
-o casesensitivity=mixed \
-o nbmand=on \
-o sharesmb=root=@192.168.1 \
rpool/local
and am backing up with
zfs snapshot rpool/local at now
zfs send -p -R rpool/local at now > $file
When I re-install OpenSolaris from scratch, and restore with
zfs receive -d rpool < $file
the filesystem mount point is not set to /usr/local, but to /usr/loca...

ZFS Filesystem Quota under Solaris 10 and Sparc
Hallo.
Filesystem quotas used to work well under Solaris 9 and ufs
filesystems on the Sparc platform even with two rules for the folders
in the users home directories /home/group/user and the separate
filesystem /var/mail holding the inboxes:
plugin {
quota = fs:Home-Verzeichnis:noenforcing
quota2 = fs:INBOX:noenforcing:mount=/var/mail
}
Since we upgraded last year to Solaris 10
