RFE: ISCSI alias when shareiscsi=on
Starting from this thread:
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=118786𝀂
I would love to have the possibility to set an ISCSI alias when doing an
shareiscsi=on on ZFS. This will greatly facilate to identify where an
IQN is hosted.
the ISCSI alias is defined in rfc 3721
e.g. http://www.apps.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3721.html#sec-2
and the CLI could be something like:
zfs set shareiscsi=on shareisicsiname=<iscsi_alias> tank

ZFS/iSCSI target integration
...iSCSI/ZFS Integration
A. Overview
The goal of this project is to couple ZFS with the iSCSI target in Solaris
specifically to make it as easy to create and export ZVOLs via iSCSI as it
is to create and export ZFS filesystems via NFS. We will add two new ZFS
properties to support this feature.
shareiscsi
Like the ''sharenfs'' property, ''shareiscsi'' indicates if a ZVOL should
be exported as an iSCSI target. The acceptable values for this property
are ''on'', ''off'', and ''direct''. In the future, we may support ot...

shareiscsi is cool, but what about sharefc or sharescsi?
I''d love to be able to server zvols out as SCSI or FC targets. Are
there any plans to add this to ZFS? That would be amazingly awesome.

Upgrading a volume from iscsitgt to COMSTAR
...chine to house my "big" pool, and installed
build 129 on it. I''d like to start using COMSTAR for exporting the
iscsi targets, rather than the older iscsi infrastructure.
I''ve seen quite a few tutorials on how to use COMSTAR for new volumes
(and a few mentions of the shareiscsi=stmf). I''ve seen some talk about
how the old infrastructure used to use the first 64K of the volume for
the iscsi information (and that COMSTAR uses the ZFS metadata store.)
What I haven''t found is a set of steps for taking a volume from the old
way of doing things to the new...

iSCSI on a single interface?
Hi, are there currently any plans to make an iSCSI target created by
setting shareiscsi=on on a zvol
bindable to a single interface (setting tpgt or acls)?
I can cobble something together with ipfilter,
but that doesn''t give me enough granularity to say something like:
''host a can see target 1, host c can see targets 2-9'', etc.
Also, am I right in thinkin...

iscsitgtd failed request to share on zpool import after upgrade from b104 to b134
Hi,
I am posting my question to both storage-discuss and zfs-discuss as I am not quite sure what is causing the messages I am receiving.
I have recently migrated my zfs volume from b104 to b134 and upgraded it from zfs version 14 to 22. It consist of two zvol''s ''vol01/zvol01'' and ''vol01/zvol02''.
During zpool import I am getting a non-zero exit code,

ZFS iSCSI (For VirtualBox target) and SMB
...s by the way but have been using Linux for some time). In my attempt to create the iSCSI target to be used and the VM disk I created (through the web frontend) a new dataset under the main pool of type "Volume" and gave it 30GB of space and called it iTunesVM. I then tried to run:
zfs set shareiscsi=on tank/iTunesVM
but got the error:
cannot share ''tank/iTunesVM'': iscsitgtd failed request to share
cannot share ''tank/iTunesVM at zfs-auto-snap:weekly-2009-01-02-15:02'': iscsitgtd failed request to share
I''ve checked and my iSCSI target service is on a...

Solaris 10 5/09 ISCSI Target Issues
Hi,
I have a zfs root Solaris 10 running on my home server. I created an ISCSI target in the following way:
# zfs create -V 1g rpool2/iscsivol
Turned on the shareiscsi property
# zfs set shareiscsi=on rpool2/iscsivol
# zfs list rpool2/iscsivol
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
rpool2/iscsivol 18K 19.9G 18K rpool2/iscsivol
I am running into couple of issues here

>1TB ZFS thin provisioned partition prevents Opensolaris from booting.
Not sure where to put this but I am cc''ing the ZFS - discussion board.
I was successfull in creating iscsi shares using ZFS set shareiscsi=on with 2 thin provisioned partitions of 1TB each (zfs create -s -V 1tb idrive/d1). Access to the shares with an iscsi initiator was successful, all was smooth, until the reboot.
Upon reboot, the console reports the following errors.

zfs + iscsi target + vmware esx server
I''m posting here as this seems to be a zfs issue. We also have an open ticket with Sun support and I''ve heard another large sun customer also is reporting this as an issue.
Basic Problem: Create a zfs file system and set shareiscsi to on. On a vmware esx server discover that iscsi target. It shows up as 249 luns. When attempting to then add the storage esx server eventually times out, if you view it from command line you see it checking each lun and crashing out before it gets to 249.
Test Environment:

Does iSCSI target support SCSI-3 PGR reservation ?
Does opensolaris iSCSI target support SCSI-3 PGR reservation ?
My goal is to use the iSCSI LUN created by [1] or [2] as a quorum device for a 3-node suncluster.
[1] zfs set shareiscsi=on <storage-pool/zfs volume name>
[2] iscsitadm create target .....
Thanks,

Virtual IP Integration
Has there been any discussion here about the idea integrating a virtual IP into ZFS. It makes sense to me because of the integration of NFS and iSCSI with the sharenfs and shareiscsi properties. Since these are both dependent on an IP it would be pretty cool if there was also a virtual IP that would automatically move with the pool.
Maybe something like "zfs set ip.nge0=x.x.x.x mypool"
Or since we may have different interfaces on the nodes where we want to move the...

Huge difference in reporting disk usage via du and zfs list. Fragmentation?
Do we have enormous fragmentation here on our X4500 with Solaris 10, ZFS Version 10?
What except zfs send/receive can be done to free the fragmented space?
One ZFS was used for some month to store some large disk images (each 50GByte large) which are copied there with rsync. This ZFS then reports 6.39TByte usage with zfs list and only 2TByte usage with du.
The other ZFS was used for similar

why is zpool import still hanging in opensolaris 2009.06 ??? no fix yet ???
...k how long it takes... I hate to think how long it would take if I had a 10TB system. (but then again, a file-system-check on an ext2 disk also takes forever...)
I re-enabled the iscsitgtd and did a list : it saw one of the two targets ! (which was ok because I remembered that I had turned off the shareiscsi flag on the second share.
I then went ahead and connected the system back into the network and "repaired" the iscsi-target on the virtual mainframe : WORKED ! Copied over the virtual disks to local store so I can at least start up these servers asap again.
Then set the iscsishare on the s...
