Hi, I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition: ## Section - [shareA] [shareA] path = /tmp/shareA writelist = user1 and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when connected as user1. Using MSDFS
...I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2). I set up the DFS share on SMB1 per these instructions and want to share the Public share from SMB2 through DFS on SMB1. 1. root# cd /export/dfsroot 2. root# chown root /export/dfsroot 3. root# chmod 755 /export/dfsroot 4. root# ln -s msdfs:storageA\\shareA linka 5. root# ln -s msdfs:serverB\\share,serverC\\share linkb I think the 5th line would be: ln -s msdfs:smb2\\public I'm totally confused about what the 4th line is trying to get me to do. I assume "storageA" is SMB1 and shareA is the DFS share, and the symbolic link command...

Very strange XP behaviour
I see *things* happening here. XP. Trying to access \\host\sharea. works fine \\host\shareb - pops up password window shares a and ba may vary between reboots. I spent 15 minutes scratching my head and finally tossed out "snoop port 445" So what I've seen. On shares I can access wxp do: 1. Send: Tree Connect AndX Request \\host\sharea 2. Receive:...

inherit groups?
I'm wondering if there is a better way of doing this. Right now we have a share (ShareA) with three sub directories in it (Dir1, Dir2, Dir3) that have specific groups set for each directory. We would like to have newly created files and/or directories inherit the parent directories group. Right now were using SETGID bit to accomplish this. Is there a better way to accomplish thi...

Hello, I have a CentOS 4.4 box acting as a print server with a cups backend and samba 3.2.4. I recently ran yum which updated both cups and cups-libs, but i do not think this is my problem. I've added windows drivers to the samba sharea and have in the past printed a test page to the printer. Now when i atempt to do this with a word document from a windows box, i am getting the error: client not authorized. It is showing me connecting to the print$ share as my user which have SePrintOperatorPrivilege, then i get the error from cup...
