SYSLINUX 2.20-pre14 released - RELEASE CANDIDATE
...lly decided to call the final release 3.00 when it's
ready. Between code base rewrite + EXTLINUX + libcom32 + simple menu,
there is plenty of reason to bump the major version number. Yes,
libcom32 was introduced a little bit ago, but only with the simple menu
system has it really gotten a shakedown.

Crazy stuff in latest CVS HEAD
...led audio
in the other direction. The console shows this error repeated ad
nauseum during each call:
Jul 18 16:08:03 ERROR[22941]: utils.c:509 tvfix: warning negative
timestamp -93136.-389875
I noticed some minor changes to utils.c on the cvs list. I also know
that this is the major bug shakedown period before the 1.2 release,
but maybe I've done something wrong and somebody has seen this error
before? Anybody? Strangely, calls going out over an IAX forward
work just fine.

blackmail attempt? Stable mailing list block?
I got some weird mail back, claiming that my e-mail was blocked, w/o
indicating what server was blocked, after the mail appeared in the
mailing list. Is this some BS shakedown? I use postfix on a DSL line
forwarding to earthlink, this is hardly something that should be rare
in the BSD world... the mail appeared to come from a web mail server
and the first link has the following lovely text:
"If you would like a site be added or removed from BlarsBL, you may hire

Misreported values with newhidups
Okay, now that I've got NUT up and running with the newhidups driver, I can
give it a quick shakedown.
Most of the values look good, but are few are off. Here's what I get:

[LLVMdev] Why llvm-gcc? Another beginner's question.
What is the reason for llvm-gcc? Will regular gcc work (except for the
releases that are broken, of course)? Does llvm in any way depend on
features of llvm-gcc instead of gcc?
Or is it optional? Was it conceived to give llvm itself a through
shakedown? Is it there just in case you really want llvm code in some
form from a C program? Is such llvm code necessary for some kind of use
-- might it be that that a compiler that uses llvm can only link with
ofher llvm-generated code?

...VM optimization and code generation libraries instead of the
original ones found in gcc. This is the default way of using llvm-gcc;
it basically makes it easier for people to use LLVM as a drop-in
replacement for GCC.

More info on 3Ware 9550SX from the field (in case anyone else is interested)
From a buddy of mine that has spent a little time with the new cards.
This was in response to my email asking about his impressions of them:
It just came out in mid-September. There are a couple reasons I'm
not thrilled with it:
1) no 8-port multilane version (only 12)
2) the 8-port non-multilane version is a kludge, connector-wise (a row
of 3 double-stacked connectors along the

SCO & R
I apologize if this has been addressed before;
recently
I read an article in Forbes which discussed how SCO
was going after companies that have been using Linux.
The article made the point that the ideas behind GPL
are under attack precisely because no one is making
sure
that the code being put into the freely avail.

Here's my question: Is R

R-beta: New R Version for Unix
Version 0.60 of R for Unix is now available. Release of this version
has been delayed for a variety of reasons, but we hope that it will
provide a good deal more stability and functionality than previous
versions. However it should be regarded as of "alpha" quality for a
short shakedown period.
We would like user feedback to help us improve the quality of R.
