I like this change. I think we were overloading the config_complete method before to do two different things (complete configuration; do any allocation/housekeeping necessary before we can start serving). The only questions in my mind are whether we want this before 1.18, and whether the name ("get_ready") is a good one. Rich.

Commit 39b40750dd works if you use 'make clean', but not if you rely on incremental builds. Git likes to update files by creating new inodes, which strands hard links. We could either use symlinks, or as done here, add a dependency to force the hard links to be rebuilt as needed. If you're following nbdkit development upstream you'll have seen that we are still making changes to the .list_exports and related APIs. The current .list_exports API upstream is not how it will look finally.
