After a successful installation of CentOS5 beta, I "successfully" crashed the system twice already. This is caused by a known bug in the cifs kernel module. The patch became available in January: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/sfrench/cifs-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=8e6f195af0e1f226e9b2e0256af8df46adb9d595 FC5 and FC6 are running the patched kernel but, unfortunately, RHEL5 will not. Hi. I can see that this is a long long standing issue... Apparently things changed in Windows 2008 R2, and after upgrade of domain from R1 to R2 cifs mounts don't work anymore between Linux servers.
