Listing on Host sFlow under Applications>Monitoring
Would it be possible to list the Host sFlow project in the Monitoring
section of http://libvirt.org/apps.html?
Host sFlow <http://host-sflow.sourceforge.net/>
Host sFlow is a light weight agent running on KVM hypervisors that
links to libvirt library and exports standardized cpu, memory, network

Monitoring and statistics through libvirt
Hi folks,
is it possible to monitor and gather statistics in realtime (CPU,
memory, HDD, network, ... - something like dstat) of guest systems
with libvirt through console from host system (KVM based)? If yes, do
those guests need to be created through libvirt? Thanks for your help
and time.

Collecting system stats
Hi,
I am trying to create a report across all my KVM hypervisors using libvirt
API and I need some assistance in figuring out the right API calls. My
report will contain the total available memory, CPU, disk across all
hypervisors, versus the amount used by the virtual machines. This report
will help figure out if we are running low on hypervisor disk, CPU or
memory and if we need to add more.

How to collect the VM bandwidth usage utilization
Hi Guy,
I am trying to figure out how & where can i get the bandwidth usage
utilization statistic info for all the VM, so in the end i will be able to
use it for metering purpose..
Anyone got any idea ?
Regards,
Peter

How are you measuring CPU usage?
Hello,
Recently I''ve received some complaints that there is excessive but
intermittent latency of network traffic to domUs on some of my
servers.
Upon investigation it seems that on some servers, indeed traffic is
occasionally delayed by up to 140ms where something like 5ms RTT
would be expected. The average RTT is not unusual; since this is
only occasional packets it only affects the

XCP bandwidth management
...ve found so far aren''t so good:
1 - Limit the interface using the XenCenter GUI... but that means the VM
would never be able to go above about 1mbps, even if it''s sat there and used
no bandwidth for the past week and is well within its quota, so that''s not
ideal.
2 - Use sFlow in XCP to capture the data. Well this works for looking at how
much bandwidth they are using, but I haven''t found any existing tool that
will act on that data to do traffic shaping.
3 - Use the XAPI calls to check the bandwidth usage.
With methods 2 and 3 I guess I could write something...

Re: Collecting system stats
If you need to continuously track libvirt metrics, you might want to
install Host sFlow agents on each of your KVM hypervisors:
http://host-sflow.sourceforge.net/
The Host sFlow agent is a lightweight daemon that links to the libvirt
library on the hypervisor and sends hypervisor and VM metrics using the
sFlow protocol to a central collector. You could use an sFlow analyzer like

Getting CPU and memory usage statistics for the host
Hi,
I have noticed that virt-manager has the ability to show me the current cpu- and
memory-usage of both the host and running guest machines.
How does it do that?
I could make good use of that information myself in the client applications I'm
writing, however, from what I can see on
http://libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html, I have no idea how to go about
getting it from libvirt. In

cisco netflow analyzer?
...ifferent traffics from the same
> box when in need.
ntop can read netflow events, the server runs in linux(maybe works
in windows too),the client is browser-based so you can access it from
almost anywhere..
netflow is somewhat restricted as far as what info you can get, I''ve
only used sflow, a brief comparison of the protocols is at the
bottom of this pdf:
http://www.sflow.org/sFlowOverview.pdf
ntop can read sflow as well, though last time I tried it it was unstable,
I used sflowtrend instead.

FreeBSD DDoS protection
Hi,
I have a router running BGP and OSPF (bird) on FreeBSD.
Are there any best practises one can take in order to protect the network from DDoS attacks.
I know this isn't easy. But I would like to secure my network as much as possible.
Even if I'am not able to prevent or block a ddos I would like to get some info (snmp trap parhaps) regarding the attack.
Then I can contact my ISP or

Switch to measure traffic at IP level?
Hello all:
Is there a network switch that will give me traffic
stats at an IP address level?
Right now, I only get statstics at a port level, but
that does not help since each of my servers run several
virtual machines and I need to measure traffic
per virtual machine.
Thanks,
Neil

Not able to capture detailed CPU information of the guest machine using Libvirt API.
Hi ,
I have two KVM guests in ubuntu host machine.I am using Python binding of
Libvirt API to query on the hypervisor and capture the CPU , memory related
information of the guest machines.
I need to capture the detail information regarding CPU like : cpu_aidle,
cpu_idle, cpu_speed, cpu_wio and memory like
:mem_cached,mem_buffers,mem_free etc. of the guest machines.
How could I get these

me to participate and "give back" to the community.
Anywho, I wanted to post this response to a thread that was created back
in November 2008 about the ntop daemon failing to start. I'm currently
setting up ntop as a NetFlow & SFlow collector and came across the
issue. A quick refresher, the init script for ntop has an issue where
it can't parse the ntop.conf file correctly if switches are entered
before the "@/etc/ntop.conf". The suggested work around was to move the
"-d -L" switches from in front of...

Hi guys , Im have some problems installing the following packages:
rrdtool-devel
rrdtool-perl
Before we moved to centos/rhel7 it was a simple task, just doing:
yum install rrdtool rrdtool-devel and rrdtool-perl was enough.
Now, I only can install the rrdtool package but not rrdtool-devel and
rrdtool-perl.
I tryed adding some repos, but I think I added wrong ones.

Monitoring passthrough(SR-IOV) interfaces
Hi all, is it possible to monitor guest's interface's stat which uses
SR-IOV virtual function?
I don't know how qemu/libvirt implement monitoring, if functions like
interfaceStats are implemented in the host, I think there's little chance
to do this due to SR-IOV's nature, is it right?
If i can't use libvirt to monitor SR-IOV interfaces, is there another way
to do

OT: What netflow tool do you recommends me?
Hi all,
I need to setup a netflow reporting tool under CentOS server to collect
traffic data from several firewalls. What netflow tool do you recommends me?
Of course, Open source.
Many thanks.

[Bug 1068] New: IPFIX still unusable?
...time to finish it
in the future but don't compile it. This confuses users since
they think that it works.
Signed-off-by: Pablo Neira Ayuso <pablo at netfilter.org>
Is this in this times since > 5 years still the same?
It would be very nice if there where a performant ipfx, netflow or sflow
solution
on linux.
