Restrict access to users home drives
Hi, is it possible to hide/restrict access to the home drives of our samba users when accessing them directly via netbios address? I have set up the home folders in ADUC. They are all mapped to drive H: and users have full access to their drive. The problem is, that others users also have access (accept write) to other users folders when opening the domain shares via \\<netbios

File share permissions act different on member server than on DC
Hello, a while ago I wrote the http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares HowTo. When I wrote the HowTo, I setup and configured the share on a DC - what still works like described. Today I tried the first time to do exactly the same on a 4.0.10 and 4.1.0 _member server_, and it doesn't work there. The share in smb.conf: [demo] path = /srv/samba/Demo read...

Samba4 binding LDAP Server
Hi all, I have several servers in a facility running Samba3 authenticating users from a LDAP server with no issues. But now, I'm testing a new file server with Samba4 and I'm running in a problem which seems to be really easy to solve but I couldn't. I'm using the smb.conf file from the other samba3 servers, so while I don't set the owner of the folder (with chown) with the

I am now trying to create a new Samba 4 (4.1.7 Ubuntu 12.04) domain member fileserver and have been following these guides: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares wbinfo and getent all work as described. All looks good until I get to the section on setting permissions on the share at which point I get "An error occurred while applying the security information to: \\SERVER\share Access is denied" Has anyone reached this point with similar result...

share folders in BTRFS w/o having to retransfer back from a wind0ze computer
...th a samba the old way, security = user I was hoping I could just change the ownership recursively to be something standard, like root:sambashares and put it in the smb.conf, reload then use computer management on a windows box to set owners and groups I did read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares and googled stuff elswhere.. However, only the folders made during provisioning seem to be manageable from the windows computers. My thought, the "acl" is not set... I had hoped maybe samba would do that for me.... I was able to use the folder created during provisioning to create o...

share permissions
I have a share setup on a Samba 4.0.8 / CentOS 6.4 box that is successfully replicating with a W2K3 server. I'm following the HOWTO here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares [mytest] path = /home/me/mytestshare <-- with or without trailing slash read only = No On the W2K3 box, I can browse to \\newdc and I see my test share listed there. I can also see it if I connect to newdc in Computer Management. However, what I can't get from either of those places...

Samba 4.1.0
I am using samba 4.1.0 on Fedora 19 x64. I compiled from source and provisioned from scratch. I joined the domain with a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine. I do see the shares on the server, but I do not have the security tab to set permissions on the folders. The unix filesystem rights are set to root:root to 770. I do not know what the problem is. I did not experience this issue on previous versions on

Users can't access files on shares
Hello fellow Samba experts, I come to you in hour of need. :-) I have successfully set up Samba 4. It's acting as a AD domain controller and on it I have 4 users, 4 groups and 6 shares. For most of the time everything works fine, but samba has occasional glitches. The glitches appear in such way that one user is let's say editing excel file, and after saving the file and exiting excel,

Problems with samba AD
Hi there, ? I'm currently trying samba 4 as an Active Directory Domain Controller on a Debian Jessie server. I don't find a solution to two problems, maybe somebody can help me. ? First on I can't get anaonymous login (Guest) working. I'm able to log on account nobody by using smbclient, but when trying to logon from a Windows 7 or 8 client, authentification is not working. ?

samba4.1 as domain member in a domain I don't be admin
....samba.org/index.php/Samba4/Domain_Member ) tutorial. Which worked perfectly with adding the server to the domain and retrieving users/groups and so on. (via wbinfo) My samba server was added to my AD-Subtree. Now I wanted to add a share and followed this tutorial: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares I tried to grant the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege to my domain user TOP\myUser. First net rpc tried to connect to 127.0.0.1, so I added -Smy-pdc.sub1.top.foo.bar which resulted in: net rpc rights grant 'TOP\myUser' SeDiskOperatorPrivilege -U'TOP\myUser' -Smy-pdc.sub1.top.foo.bar Failed...

Setup and configure file shares with Windows ACLs
When reading the wiki page about setting up new shares there is some information missing. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares_with_Windows_ACLs The information I am missing most here is which posix.1 ACLs to set after creating the shares directory. There is only # mkdir -p /srv/samba/Demo/ but on my system that will create a directory that is owned by root:root and have 0755 permissions. Not very helpful as trying to...

I have to say a BIG THANK YOU to all Samba4 developers for deve...
