time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I
have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but
my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command
manually logged in as a domain user:
net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3
but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied".
Any ideas?

NTP doesnt work for Win2000 clients + Samba 4.0.4 (see tcpdump)
...ontroller. Unfortunately this fails for my W2k clients in conjunction with Samba 4.0.4 and also an error in event log appears, that says that the time couldnt be retrieved of my samba4 server "mysmb4srv.ad.mycompany.com".
As soon as I execute on win2000 clients cmd prompt "net time /setsntp:mysmb4srv.ad.mycompany.com" it works. This command causes the registry entries under HKLM\System\Current Control Set\Services\W32Time\Parameters to change the default behavior from type=Nt5DS to type=NTP and adds a line NTP server=mysmb4srv.ad.mycompany.com". With this setting the time sy...

Time Server?
List,
I've got my Samba box (RedHat 7.2) running NTP client to sync with
PARC. I want my windaz clients to be able to read time from it
automagically. Is there a way to do that? Seems like WinXX clients cannot
use NTP so can how can I sync them with my Samba box (which is accurate to
within 200 ms!)
TIA

ntp policy example question
I would like to configure a linux ntp server on my lan as the ntp server for
my windows xp clients
I'm not able to come to an understandable solution (due probably to my lack
in windows knowledge)
I found this in samba archives:
CLASS MACHINE
CATEGORY !!Time
POLICY !!NTPServer
KEYNAME SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters
PART !!NTP_SERVER EDITTEXT

logon script to adjust time on workstation
Hey everyone,
I have what I think is a fairly simple question. In the logon script
for users, I have it set to map some drives and set the time on the
user's workstation, all Win2K machines. Now, shy of putting everyone in
the Administrator's group, how can I have it set the time on that
machine? It only successfully works when myself or the other
administrator log on to a machine

Accepting Time Server
If samba and xntpd are running, you're done! Samba is a time server.
Setting the smb.conf parameter "time server = yes" will cause Samba to
advertise itself as a time server in the browse list through nmbd.
Regardless of this setting, clients can still set their time with the "net
time" command.

time sync issue
I am running a Samba domain controller with LDAP integration. I have at
least some workstations which do not seem to be syncing the time with the DC
at all. My first instinct is to simply set the time with a logon script, but
of course that runs as the user, whom does not have permission to set the
system time. I would prefer to get it working right, to where the system
syncs its time with the

allowing users to change system time
Greetings Samba users,
I'm the proud administrator of a samba 3 domain with openldap backend. All
is well but for one niggling little problem which i hope somebody could help
me with ?.
My pdc is set up as a time server "time server = yes" and I have created a
logon script with the following entry :
net time \\mypdc /set /yes
Now, when i logon to a windows 2k domain client as

XP "logon failure" but still logs on -- no roaming profile
I'm having a problem with roaming domains on Samba v3.0-alpha21. I've
connected the machine (watertown) to the domain (precidia) via the
server (griffon). I've logged on with my userid (bcwhite) and seen
my roaming profile get created on the server upon logoff. Future logons
grab the roaming profile and everything is fine.
However, _sometimes_ I get a window with the message:

causing LMB elections
I've been running samba servers with 200+ W98 machines for
some time. I'm changing to W2k and everything was going fine.
I've upgraded 40 boxes. One W2k box has started announcing itself
as a local master browser for one of the workgroups. A samba
server thinks it is master, forcing election. Samba will stop
being the LMB for about 3 minutes and then will re-establish
itself as
