CentOS-5 Need Help With Serial Ports
...truggling with setting up two serial ports on an HP/Compaq D512S (Intel P4) under CentOS-5. I am not at all sure why these things were not auto-configured when I initially installed the CentOS system from CDs but they were not. I have found various resources on the web and from them uncovered the setserial utility. What I need from somebody is guidance on how to use this utility to properly configure the ports. Currently in /dev/ I have: crw------- 1 uucp uucp 4, 64 Dec 21 12:14 ttyS0 crw------- 1 root root 4, 65 Dec 20 17:36 ttyS1 crw------- 1 root root 4, 66 Dec 20 17:36 tty...

pseudo tty's
Hi, I'm using a software called 'remserial' to access a remote serial port. The program creates a pseudo tty in /dev (/dev/pts/0). I can access the port with another applications, but not with WINE. I read that WINE uses 'setserial' to grab information on the port. If so, that's the problem. AFAIK setserial doesn't work with pseudo tty: bash-3.1# setserial /dev/pts/3 Cannot get serial info: Invalid argument That's probably why i keep getting EscapeCommFunction() == FALSE! errors. :-( Searching the list...

Need help configuring additional serial ports
...ot;. I've included the output of "lspci" and "cat /proc/pci" below. The (very sparse) instructions for Linux support for this card state that you should look for the string "serial port x" in the contents of /proc/pci, and then use that information with the setserial command to configure the port as follows: # setserial /dev/ttyS2 port 0xc000 uart 16550 irq 11 baud_base 115200 The problem is that I can't find the equivalent of the "0xc000" and the IRQ on my system in the contents of /proc/pci. Here is what the built-in, working s...

Centos 7 add-on serial cards
I'm upgrading from CentOS6 to CentOS 7. I run 2 weather stations on C6 and have one of them attached to ttyS0 which is on the motherboard, and the other to ttyS2 which in on an add-on PCI serial card. I'm migrating the weather stations another host running C7 which has a similar hardware configuration.? When I connect the weather station to ttyS0 everything works fine, but when I try

Question on detect serial ports
...tty shows 0, 1, 2 and 3. 2 and 3 are on interrupt 10 -and they worked. going into the BIOS COM ports 0 and 1 are also on IRQ 10 and not the standard 3,4. BIOS cannot set anything but IRQ 10, 11 for serial ports. Odd... So COM 0 and 1 dont work right away... I had to put this in the boot script. setserial /dev/ttyS1 irq 10 port 0x2e8 setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq 10 port 0x3e8 now they seem to work. I have no idea why the bios will not have IRQ 3 and 4 for com ports but I was surprised linux did not inquire from the bios and use it. Should it get that from the BIOS - or - just leave the manual setti...

COPILOT Glucose Meter COM problem
I am a 62 year old beginner in Ubuntu. Thanks for any help, guidance, suggestions on this problem! I have used commands like the following to be certain that I have an active com port: dmesg | grep ttyS rm com1 ln -s /dev/ttyS0 com1 So I suspect the solution lies somewhere in WINE. If all else fails I will get a USB to SERIAL converter cable and try that. My wife has an Abbott Labs Freestyle

FE700VA over USB? controlling UPSes over network?
...laced my 10+-year-old server with a nano-ITX-type one that has USB but not old serial ports.  I connected my FE700VA to DB25-to-9-to-USB cables, but haven't been able to set it up. Apparently my DB9-to-USB cable (Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port) has issues needing old software (setserial?) and some new software (fconfigure) being changed.  Has anyone managed to do something like this?     I'm still also interested in knowing how to control the three UPSes I have in the house (except FE700VA not re-setup yet) over the network, from one of them.  I managed to load some webp...

Can anyone give me some ideas?
..., or if in fact there's another better adapted driver in this case? I also have a dumb port that I can fall back on, but I'd prefer a bit more information if at all possible. I'm using CentOS 5.0, with nut 2.2.0, and ttyS0 is the only serial port I have available on the machine. setserial -g /dev/ttyS0 /dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4 The cable is good and no one is using the serial port (at least I never receive any indication of this). Can anyone give me an idea of where to look or try next? Nick

wine-20010305 and serial port access
...the complete program I get this message in my xterm: fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub I checked permissions of /dev/ttyS0 and I also played around with various options (trying other com ports in the Toshiba program, trying different speeds for the serial port, trying different options with setserial). Nothing changed a bit. I'm doing all this as root to avoid permission probs. I read a lot of messages about serial ports and wine on google.com but nothing really hit (apart from that one message, telling that direct access of serial ports is a nogo in wine). Any idea? wobo

serial port problems: micro flashing
...sted in helping. I did glean from them that there is some creative use of modem control lines (DTR,CTS are clearly trying to do something). I have tried some WINEDEBUG="+trace,+comm" and hope someone else sees something useful in it. I notice that it reports baud rate of 2400bps when setserial is 115200, and the windows app is at 115200. (also disabled baud rate negotiation in the app to no avail). I have tried adding the `low_latency` flag to ttyS0. I removed a bunch of lines that were repeated from the wine debug channel output because the orginal file was 33M. I removed them on...

...oot, using > $ watch upsc MYUPS > what is give me "LB OL" > from another terminal I restart: > # systemctl restart nut-driver.service > after some seconds the status is changed to simply "OL". Are there any systemd units that change the serial port settings, e.g. setserial? They might be changing the cable power settings (which are re-applied when the driver is restarted). Check the journal to see the order of the units at startup. Also, does your UPS support smart signaling? The APC smart protocol driver (apcsmart) is far more resilient than the genericups driver...
