Hello
I'm setting up the automatic printer driver download feature, and it works
nicelly except for one little thing: I have to use, on the samba machine,
rpcclient's setdriver command to associate a printer with its driver.
I didn't see this requirement in the Samba howto, it only mentions setdriver
as a way to speed up large installations. Am I missing something? Should
windows make this association automatically when it uploads the driver to

AW: rpcclient setdriver fails: WERR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME
Hi Kurt,
You are absolutely right (as always). After restarting smb, rpcclient
setdriver works fine.
May be - in the next future release - cupsaddsmb will work.
Thank you very much.

rpcclient and setdriver
Hello,
I'm trying to use rpcclient 'setdriver' as an unprivileged user; a
special lpadmin user with very limited rights has been created, and
ownership of the location of driver files (/home/PrintDrivers) given to him.
when executing the smbclient and rpc commands like cupsaddsmb does,
nearly everything works fine, except the last co...

The Microsoft clients (Win9x, Win NT, Win 2k) is downloading the

I had no problem to install and upload up to 2 printers but now I am
not able to set the driver.
I can install more printers, but when cupsaddsmb is running
rpcclient -N -U 'root%secret' -c 'setdriver zae zae'
I get the "result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL" messages.
This is cut out of the debug-log of rcpclient.

rpcclient 'setdriver' problem
...t shares and the Samba server from a windows box. From
rpcclient, I have installed the print driver for the printer using the
'adddriver' command. I can see my printers in 'enumprinters', and can
see the driver from 'enumdrivers'. The problem is when I go try the
'setdriver' command. It fails with a "WERR_ACCESS_DENIED". I've
looked at the debug from this command but nothing pops out at me. Any
advice would be appreciated. I have verified that the 'use client
driver = no' is set in the smb.conf thinking that might be an issue.

setdriver - Access Denied
Hi, I'm trying to follow through the printing howto and I'm having a bit
of a nightmare trying to use the rpcclient -c 'setdriver ...' utility.
I keep getting WERR_ACCESS_DENIED errors. I tried setting up a root user
with smbpasswd but I get NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE if I try to run
rpcclient with -U root. I think there must be something fundamental to
authentication that I don't understand. Also, I noticed that te...

werr_access_denied when running setdriver for a printer
Hi all,
I'm getting WERR_ACCESS_DENIED error for some of the printers when running
setdriver printer_name printer_driver as part of the cupsaddsmb step.
Weirdly, it works for some printers, and never works for others, while all
the printers have the same settings. Samba 3.5.20 with CUPS 1.5.4.
Does this part of log give any clue of why could this happen?

Cupsaddsmb only running "setdriver"
...AGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
I downloaded a fresh cd (Debian 3.1) to install a Printserver with.
I've come to the bit that I can run cupsaddsmb, and expected it to
run smbclient to add the drivers to the print$ share, and then
rpcclient to do the "addriver" part and finaly the "setdriver" part.
Unfortunatly, it is doing only the setdriver part, completely
skipping all the previous steps it should take.
This is the output:
amsprint:/home/mark# cupsaddsmb -U root -v -a
Password for root required to access localhost via SAMBA:
Running command: rpcclient localhost -N -U'ro...
