I have a device on my network that is not DHCP and I dont know the IP address of it and it has not method of finding it or changing it unless you know the IP address (setable by browser). Is there a way on linux, based on MAC address, to get the IP of the unit? Thanks, Jerry

Possible to use attr_reader/writer in model?
I have some properties that I want setable externally, but readable only internally. I''ve played around with attr_writer (and attr_reader separately) but can''t figure out how to get either to work. I can do what I want using attr_accessor, or just straight out defining the prop setter method. Anybody know how to use at...

R-beta: auto save
I'm just about to put an autosave feature into R as per requests by Peter and Kurt. My current thinking is that it should be an option so that it is setable (in the profile if you want). One simply specifies the number of commands that are executed between calls to save. It won't be incremental; I'll just dump the output of ls(). I think that the file name should not be .RData but rather something like .RAutoSave (so it's there if you need...

a patch for apc-hid.h
Gentlemen, I have determined that on my UPS (APC Back-UPS ES 650 FW:818.w1.D USB FW:w1), the variable UPS.PowerSummary.RemainingCapacityLimit is writeable. I am setting this variable to start shutdown a little earlier. Appended is an unconditional patch for apc-hid.h. If, as indicated by the original code, there are APC UPS devices that don't allow setting of this variable, it becomes

Spelling (PR#6570)
I came across this in connection with an unrelated issue > beta[2] Error in beta[2] : object is not subsettable > beta[2] <- 5 Error in "[<-"(`*tmp*`, 2, value = 5) : object is not subsetable One of the messages must be wrong, but I need a native English speaker to tell me which one. -- O__ ---- Peter Dalgaard Blegdamsvej 3 c/ /'_ --- Dept. of Biostatistics 2200 Cph. elegant way of re-encoding?
Hi, Now that I've been able to look at streamtranscoder 3.0, I see there's absolutely no documentation whatsoever. I've not compiled it, but I note that previously when you ran it first time, it would create a sample config file for you to edit. Maybe it still does this. Oddsock's flash demo may shed more light on this, but I can't use it so don't know. Geoff. --

Questions about xtable and print.xtable
...ownames and include.colnames parameters not appearing in the xtable call, but only in the print.xtable call instead? Why do I need to specify n+1 arguments for things like align and digits, when I don't want the row names to be printed? In general, why are the align and digits calls not setable in print.xtable, but only in xtable? 2) I like to enclose my tabular environments in a center environment, instead of a table environment. Unless I've missed it, I don't see how I can do that from within the xtable package. Is this really not possible, and if so why not? The latex.e...

variable writability
Arnaud: in today's commits, I removed three lines that you apparently added on August 10: 1.1.1.1.8.1 (aquette 04-May-05): if (mode == HU_WALKMODE_INIT) 1.1.1.1.8.1 (aquette 04-May-05): { 1.1.1.1.8.1 (aquette 04-May-05): dstate_setflags(item->info_type, item->info_flags); 1.1.1.1.8.6.2.5 (aquette 10-Aug-05): /* Verify variable setability/RW */

stdio
Hi, I have experimentally done a branch of klibc with buffered stdio support. It seems to add about 1.5K of code (for x86-64), which isn't so bad, except that it means that *every* program now pulls in stdio, which in turn depends on malloc() and some other pieces of code. I have not yet implemented fscanf(), however, which may cause additional bloat. As of this point, I'm a bit

X101P on a UK BT line ---- txgain issue
I am finding that I have to increase the txgain in zapata.conf to 8 when my X101P is connected to my BT phone line, otherwise people can hardly hear me. This then gives echo issues. Do other people have the same problem on BT lines. I was wondering if I should give BT a call and get them to increase the gain on the line. Strange though as the rxgain is OK and I don't have this problem with
