I have just set up a new AD and am having a little success with it, but DNS resolution is a little slow. I'm looking into why that is and tried an ns lookup for google.com and got the answer SERVFAIL on my AD server. The query was then passed to my next nameserver (google's own dns), which handled the query. Is this correct behaviour? ...ansaction all nameserver-entries for the zone will be deleted by our application before nic-order will be sent to nic.at. Nic.at now checks all nameserver for existing entries for affected zone. If all nameservers return a NXDOMAIN (Bind) everything is fine. Our NSD nameservers return the status SERVFAIL. Nic.at interprets this return-code as an error and does not finish this transaction completely. Is it possible to return a NXDOMAIN instead of a SERVFAIL? If I set named_disable_trans to 1, everything works as expected, but if I leave it enabled the server will only give me data for the zones for which it is authoritative. There seems to be a problem with my local dns server resolving mirror.centos.org. I know something about dns but obviously not enough to figure out what might be wrong here or how to fix this in bind configs. The SERVFAIL errors below seem to be related to AAAA and MX queries for the domain. Please advise. I'm having some trouble getting reverse zones right on 5.2. The zone files worked fine on a CentOS 4.6 machine, and the forward zones moved to the new server seem OK. But for some reason I can't get anything but servfail's on remote queries to the machine. But for some reason they will answer fine if I run "host ip.ad.dr.ess" on the local machine. ...m relevant. 2) I added a reverse zone 80.16.172.in-addr.arpa and when I add records to it all lookups fail with samba saying it?s not authoritative for the lookup.I figured maybe it was a class B vs Class C thing so I created a 16.172.in-addr.arpa zone and tried that.
