Linux -> Windows Server2003 Leaves Open Files...
I was hoping the Samba experts on this list can help me with an
irritating issue...
I have an issue with Windows file servers (Server2003) thinking that
files are open with they are not.
The problem occurs when one or more linux servers using smbfs mounts
under FedoraCore4 opens the same file(s) at the same time.
This test script can exhibit the issue:
# CAREFUL to kill this after a few seconds!!!!

san fibrechannel device in HVM domU
...cated-network-card-or-pci-device-xen-virtual-machine
well, there is written that this only works for PVM guests, but that was for
3.0.4, I use 3.2, so I thought, worth a try.
However, when I am at the point that I start the domU, the following error
message appears:

Using config file "./SERVER2003".
Error: Fail to assign device(2:1.0): maybe VT-d is not enabled, or the

Without the pci parameter, the domU starts. The device is correctly hidden
from the dom0, and no other domU is r...

Apparently not.? It is set to Windows 2000 level.? It could be set to
Server2003 level but it thinks that one of my file servers is a domain
controller and it can't change it's level.? That's strange because this
file server is not a DC.

Can't maintain a connection to the Server 2003 ADS on a subdomain
Hello to every Samba expert out there,
We've been having a hard time figuring out a particular problem with Samba.
After joining the Server 2003 ADS, which is on a different subnet - just
going through a router, the membership would drop all of a sudden.
Everything works great when the Samba server is on the same subnet as the
Server 2003 ADS. I have posted some details on forums, here is a

Can''t install Windows 2003 on SLES10SP1
I finally have a xen server to play with stuff that''s causing me
problems on my production servers. One of those problems is simply
installing Windows 2003. Here''s what I do:
Open virt-manager
set up a new install:
full virt
512 ram
20 gig sparse file
boot off /dev/cdrom
The install starts as you''d expect. When it gets to the formatting I
tell it to format in NTFS.

Auth problem with AD member server
I am having trouble with certain versions of Windows accessing shares
provided by our Samba (3.0.24) servers which are AD members (Windows Server
2003 AD Controller).
The problem seems to be with the hyphen in the domain name; if a (domain)
user of XP, Server2003, or Linux accesses a share, everything works.
If a domain user on Vista or Windows7 tries to access the same share (same
user as above), they get permission denied.
HOWEVER, if the user provides the credentials as DOMAIN\User instead of
DOMAIN-NAME\User, then everything works.
We're using the L...

Closing sessions and smbstatus
Hi,
When are client sessions closed?
Let me explain what I'm trying to do... we're in a School district and
we try to stop kids logging more than once. They way I did this before
was to dump the active sessions from our previous Server2003 fileserver
into a file once a minute and process it with a Perl script to check who
was connected from where, rebooting machines remotely as needed! This
work well enough with the odd 'hung' session causing minor problems.
So now I'm trying to do the same thing with our new Samba (3.0...

Samba and winbind with LDAP IDMAP backend - user connects with Domain Admin permissions
Hi,
Please Help! My normal users are able to gain access to all home
directories even though the group owner is Domain Admins. I have set the
permissions to 770 while testing and the group to Domain Admin on all
directories.
I have a Server2003 AD Domain with a clustered RHEL5 samba server for
the home directory. I am using samba 3.0.23 with Winbind and LDAP idmap
backend. This server is still in testing to replace a RH9 samba server.
Below I have listed the ID of three users. One is Domain Admin the
others are normal users. The logs...

Mac OS X or Windows?
Hey,
I know it''s a basic question and I do not want a discussion about
which one is the best in general, I only want to know which OS you''d
recomment for programing in Rails and to do webdesign.
Maybe you can also tel me why you think so?
Regards,
zok
