I compiled samba 3.0.0 with the following configure options: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/samba --with-privatedir=/etc/ samba/private --with-ldap --with-ads --with-krb5=/usr --with-smbmount --without-sys-quotas The problem is that it seems to disregard the sysconfdir param and looks for the smb.conf file in /usr/lib/.
