I am getting large numbers of these types of messages in my maillog files: somehost.hotmail.com [65.54.246.97] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA on both of our external machines beginning on the same date. These hosts sit on different netblocks and on both machines the sendmail.cf files date from Jan 09, 2007. The last successfull connection from any hotmail acocunt was on Jan 15 at 13:17:29. I have been updating my FreeBSD systems for many years by updating and building from source. For the FreeBSD 9.2 cycle, I decided to use freebsd-update for binary update instead. I use Sendmail + Cyrus-SASL and the freebsd-update process only installed a 'bare bones' binary. After moving from Centos 5.6 to Centos 6, I figured that Sendmail minor version was updated from 8.13.x to 8.14 and Dovecto from 1.2 to 2.0.x In previous configuration SMTP auth worked fine (no SASAUTHD neccessary) for virtual users table. Hi all - I've got a regular problem that i've been fixing by hand for a long time but i'm hoping i can get some advice about the right way to solve it. I replace the default redhat/centos sendmail configuration files with my own set. I have always just done this by hand. One thing I do is completely whack submit.cf. when i update the system, RPM recreates this file. I've manually fixed things in the meantime, so I'm not sure of this, but I kinda think that it updates sendmail....
