Dovecot 1.0.0 and Seive 1.0.1 on FreeBSD
I have installed dovecot and sieve using the FreeBSD ports. Authentication is against a MySql Database. Dovecot is running using deliver as the LDA. But when I try to Sieve I get the following error in /var/log/dovecot.log deliver(mike at systemrt.com): Apr 19 14:07:19 Info: Loading modules from directory: /usr/local/libexec/dovecot deliver(mike at systemrt.com): Apr 19 14:07:19 Fatal: Plugin

Seive + Spamprobe terminates with signal 6
Ubuntu 20.04, Dovecot 2.3.7.2, SpamProbe v1.4d. For the past weeks my sieve filters that call spamprobe have been crashing out for some users. I have a dozen similar server setups and this is not happening on any of the other servers and it was working just fine for a year up until recently. This particular server is quite busy. There is plenty of disk space and inode usage is about 2.5%.

Error: Internal quota calculation error
Hello, I'm using 2.1.7 with seive and mysql quotas. We had an outage the other day where the database server where quotas are stored was not available for a short period of time. In dovecot land, the following types of errors occured in that scenario: Oct 26 22:19:01 grosbeak dovecot: lda(example at riseup.net): Error: Internal...

Dovecot / Sieve
Hi, As the "new Sieve implementation" is using a "gratefully stolen copy of deliver.c from dovecot" (i.e. a dirty code in mail-raw.c), would it be possible for the Sieve piece 1 - to be using files from dovecot directly rather than copying&changing it (which is very bad for maintenance) 2 - to be incorporated in the hg/mercurial tree of dovecot ? Thanks a lot

What to read about interactions
...the details of what interacts with what other bits when. In particular, my mail system is known by several different names, and I thought it'd be much handier to have everything land in one real mailbox, since I could sort the inbound mail into different mailboxes without a lot of trouble using seive. This has turned out to be slightly trickier than I thought it ought to be (procmail is in some ways easier), and I've come to the conclusion that I don't have a strong foundation in exactly how this is supposed to work. Apart from reading the code (which would probably at this point be h...

Order in which UIDs are assigned..
...than z.msg and "a" comes before "z" alphabetically, dovecot will assign z.msg a lower UID if its ctime is lower than a.msg. Is this correct? Secondly, when mails are placed into Maildir through a external mechanism by-passing LDA, by any means is it possible for IMAP to run seive on it when it migrates the files from new to cur and indexes them? I understand that this might not be a valid question as mail is delivered already so there is nothing to filter :-) -Akash

Why is Sieve trying to re-compile global scripts?
...9;t have the full answers yet, but when I installed the RC and restarted, I now get an error where Sieve doesn't like that I won't give it read permission on the .sieve file, so now I'm back to square one with this particular issue. OTOH, regarding my earlier post about the RC ignoring seive files, at least it is seeing global scripts (or trying to). Not sure about personal scripts yet. Error: TiQJHH2X/1S5UuAAM/SpMA: sieve: file script: Failed to open sieve script: open(/usr/local/var/dovecot/sieve/script1.sieve) failed: Permission denied... So it's using the timestamp in the Maildir filename itself. > Secondly, when mails are placed into Maildir through a external mechanism by-passing LDA, by any means is it possible for IMAP to run seive on it when it migrates the files from new to cur and indexes them? Mangesieve security question
Hello, I have a dovecot 2.2.6 on a Linux platform. I have configured manageseive extension. I have opened the manageseive port (4190) to entire world. (since I need my thunderbird and other clients to create seive scripts). I just wanted to know if it is ok to open that port to everyone, and get some feedback on some security measures specific to manageseive. -Thanks in ad...

Dove LDA vs Exim LDA
Hello All, I have built up my email server with exim + dovecot + clamv/spamassasin. I am using exim as LDA(local delivery agent). I was reading about using dovecot as LDA but I couldn't find why should I use it? Now, I am looking expert advice on "Why should I use dovecot LDA" ? Is there any benefit in terms of functionality or performance ? Any advice/suggestion/feedbacks

Sieve can't find Extprograms or Extdata
Hi, On a new install-from-source with Dovecot 2.2.16rc1, Piegeonhole 0.4.6 and a grab of the newest Extdata code, I confirmed basic Sieve functionality is working (made a simple sieve script with a test on message subject resulting in a fileinto action). But I cannot get Sieve to see Extdata or Extprograms. sievec reports "Warning: sieve: ignored unknown extension

Why is Sieve trying to re-compile global scripts?
I have some global scripts that were running nicely. Then I opened one in an editor and (probably, but not 100% sure) mindlessly saved the file, even though I hadn't made any changes. Shortly after, Sieve errors started showing in the log: Error: 4k5JA74R/1TlIwABG/SpMA: sieve: binary save: failed to create temporary file: open(/usr/local/var/dovecot/sieve/script2.svbin.example.com.4139.)

Problem with sieve. dovecot 2.0.17
Since I have lots of filtering rules in thunderbird I was thinking of using sieve instead. I want to filter incoming mail into subdirectories. like "from" store at folder "old". the script is: require ["fileinto", "envelope"]; if envelope :is "from" "eliezer at test.dom" { fileinto "old"; } else { # The rest goes into
