[jamie@audible.transient.net: Bug#160155: gapless playback]
...the last second of a track is simply not played before the next track starts. I'm using the OSS sound drivers (msndpin) but I don't think thats the problem. This only happens with xmms, if I use 'flac -c -d -fr -fl file1.flac file2.flac > /dev/dsp' to play two files that should seemlessly flow from one track to the next it works just fine. (and no, I don't have any of that cross-fade plugin stuff installed.) For sample tracks that should seemlessly transition you can grab the wav tracks 3 - 5 of "Boom!" from http://audible.transient.net/garmonbozia - flac them and ha...

Want to use a remotely location POTS phone
I have 2 locations connection via high speed internet. At location B, I have a regular old phone line I want to be able to use seemlessly from location A. What would be required to do this both software and hardware wise? I (think I) understand a SIP adapter at location A, and a server running * at location B, but what type of hardware will let me connect the POTS line to the * server? Thanks! -- Patrick Campbell

Ruby and Flash?
Hi there, I have an idea for a game I want to build, but it requires Flash as the presentation layer (I''d want to do the back end in Ruby running on Rails.) I have not been able to find any info on the integration of the two, and someone suggested asking here. Any info would be appreciated. Any links to examples would be great too. Thanks - please make sure you respond to me directly

Am I nuts to attempt a VFS local cache module?
...hen the local store needs to be rebuilt. If Samba does any file access operations outside of interceptable VFS requests, then I guess I'm out of luck. The reasons I'm interested in doing this are: 1. Won't have to incessantly worry about disk size on  servers 2. Can rebuild servers seemlessly from cloud when local server is compromised. Is this idea wrong?  Has it already been done?  Is there a better alternative? Thanks, Mark

Wine Gecko 0.9.0
...Will this improve the way installed apps render pages? 2. How will this affect existing programs that have Wine Gecko 0.1.0 in their Wine environment? I have the old cab file in /usr/share/wine/gecko which gets installed whenever I wineboot. Will the new Gecko automatically replace it and be used seemlessly by the apps? I wish to clarify this issue (especially the second) since I plan to upgrade to Wine 1.1.12. Thanks for any responses. :)

ov_comment spec
I've been working towards a mp3info like tool, OggInfo, which will surplant vorbiscomment in functionality, and also incorportate mp3info like featuers. Looking at existing vorbis api calls, i find: vorbis_comment_add() /* unsupervised string insertion */ vorbis_comment_add_tag() /* formated TAG=text insertion */ vorbis_comment_query() /* scans for matching tag (up to count duplicates) and

ANNOUNCEMENT: New Project- Baltra (AFP/SMB services compatibility)
(This is a brief announcement of a focused development/refinement of the Netatalk project.) The primary goal of Baltra is to provide a Mac OS X compatible AFP file sharing service with Samba 3.0 compatibility. We are hoping to have an AFP file sharing daemon which can run in parallel with Samba 3.0 to provide seemless file sharing amoungst SMB-based clients (Windows and MacOS-X) as well as

Samba or Win2K Server as Domain Controller?
We are looking at implementing a Windows Domain structure very soon and I have been asked to evaluate/investigate the differences between using Samba as a DC vs a true Win2k DC. We run TCP/IP and Appletalk on a 100Base-T network. I'm the main Microsoft person in the group and have a lot of Windows experience (9x - XP). We currently have a primary NT 4 domain controller mainly acting as

Can I enter an extension to dial while voicemail is playing?
I have a very, very simple Asterisk setup in my house. I have a Sipura 3000 with a PSTN line connected and one analog phone connected. The [incoming] context looks like this: exten => s,1,Dial(SIP/50,23,r) exten => s,2,VoiceMail(u50@default) exten => s,3,Playback(vm-goodbye) exten => s,4,Hangup As you can see, when somebody calls in if I don't answer in 23 seconds then they are

Capturing credentials for imap sync
Hi List All the imap sync apps I could find requires the username /password credentails to be known before a sync occurs. I have Dovecot using ldap acting as a nearline backup mail server to MS Exchange. Every hour imapsync syncs mail between Exchange and Dovecot. This all works fine becuase the users credentials are known, but when new users are added I would like the process to work

How to detect out-of-sync condition
...es as an optimization measure. My recommended game plan: 1) Are your indices *really* out of date (checks logs as Steffen recommends)? 2) If so, how do they get out of date and can you avoid it? 3) If you can't avoid it, does it cause real problems? Most of the time, dovecot will seemlessly rebuild it and it's transparent to the user. 4) If you got this far, run a trial "doveadm index -A INBOX" (assuming you're just concerned about INBOXs) to see if it's really such a bad operation. As Knuth (hallowed be thy name!) said, "premature optimization i...

FW: RPC Error with PC Netlink
Thanks for the advice. I had played with NT4 a little bit to see if I could use it for setting up a resource domain for windows 2003 machines- since it looks like you can join Windows 2003 machines to an NT4 domain (so why PCNL can't I don't know), and then establish trusts between NT4 and PCNL. I didn't really want to have NT4 machines in my enviroment any longer than necessary so

Recommended Protocols?
Good. I am going to focus on the IMAP configuration and worry about SMTP later. The following is the relevant documentation. This is very straightforward: https://doc.dovecot.org/admin_manual/ssl/dovecot_configuration/ My file 10-ssl.conf is untouched. However, this is the part that I would like to better understand: https://doc.dovecot.org/admin_manual/ssl/certificate_creation/ Before

Sorry if I didn't find the right manual. I would like to set up a new Domain Controller and connect it to an existing Office 365 with Exchange in a way, AD-Users of a certain group can login and not having to login to Office365. My questions: Can I map the existing Office365-Accounts to the new Domain? Is the existing username scheme in Office 365 of lois.griffin at company.com compatible

Error Starting Samba
I got a copy of the latest samba build from the samba site, v4.1.11. I compiled and installed it with the default options on OpenIndiana 151.1.8. I previously had samba installed from the openindiana repository but this stopped working after my windows folks made security changes to AD. I suspect the older version of samba in the repo 3.5.21-0.151.1.8 lacks certain functionality to enable it to

Converting non-32-bit integers from python to R to use bit64: reticulate
Thank you Martin for giving to know and developing 'Rmpfr' library for unlimited size integers (GNU C GMP) and arbitrary precision floats (GNU C MPFR): https://cran.r-project.org/package=Rmpfr My question is: In the long term (For R3.7.0 or R3.8.0): Does it have sense that CMP substitutes INTSXP, and MPFR substitutes REALSXP code? With this we would achieve that an integer is always an

UNIX with samba .vs. native Windows Server , how to compare thei r performance for Windows-biased management
...erver without affecting the users. When we were done, we put the login script back the way it was before, and the next time they logged out and back in, they were again pointed to the primary server with the secondary as a backup. Even after demonstrating how nice my configuration was and how seemlessly we were able to do maintenance without affecting users, management and the two NT guys I work with were still sold on using the Windows native server. They claimed that it was cheaper to buy the hardware and easier to manage permissions and file access rights with the native equipment (of course,...
