VoIP hackers gut Caller ID
The Register is carrying a article written by Kevin Poulsen of Securtiy Focus, calling asterisk "..the most powerful tool for manipulating and accessing CPN data.." > http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/07/07/hackers_gut_voip/ I hope NuFone doesn't drop asterisk-set-able callerid's after this article; i've been wanting that feature from voicep...

2.2.7a securtiy 'server' auth. problems
Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before, but as far as I could see there's no similar entry in the archive. I'm using version 2.2.7a on a HP machine running HP-UX 11.11. The binaries have been created for PA-RISC 2.0 supporting 64Bit mode. The SAMBA has been configured to use securty = server. Password servers has been 'defined'. For a certain user (Service account used to

Re-install libwrap in OpenSSH
...in server-administration. Let me make a clear point: libwrap removal was a pretty bad idea. It is a well-used security feature that is _not_ replaceable by your match-statement. As a first libwrap has features that match does not have. Second libwrap is easy-to-use and offers a possibility to make securtiy adjustments in _one_ file for nearly all services, whereas you propose to edit proprietary config files of all services with proprietary config statements for each service. If you have 20 of those you end up editing 20 config files in 20 different places in the fs with at least 20 different stateme...

ldb-tools and ldaps after badlock
...- (null) Only If I put the line - -------------- ldap server require strong auth = no - --------------- to smb.conf, everything is workin again. BUT as I understand these two paramters, I will go back to the old behavior and a man in the middle attack ist possible. Is there a solution to keep the securtiy high AND still use the ldb-tool s? I couldn't find anything in any documentation. Difference between samba 2.0.0beta4 and NT4.0 ?
Hi Samba-gurus, I have a problem with samba 2.0.0beta4 on solaris 2.5.1 (samba 1.9.18p10 behaves the same) : 1. I have a ordinary text-file on a samba-share (foo.txt). NT4.0 sees the samba-share (\\sun100\tmp) as a netdrive with the letter K:. I've done a 'net use k: \\sun100\tmp'. 2. I can doubleclick in NT4.0-explorer on foo.txt and notepad comes up correctly. 3. I

Just don't use ldaps://, instead use Kerberos (-k yes). I know it seems strange, but direct encryption with Kerberos is more secure than LDAP over SSL/TLS. Therefore, we only accept simple b...

windows RPC patch crashes my sambas
Hi gang, I've been using Samba for years now. Its great, but lately I've become aware of the security issues it presents. Currently I have a setup that uses the securtiy = domain style authentication. Basically a W2K server is used for as the PDC. But after applying the recent RPC denial of service patch to my 2K server, my sambas can no longer use my 2K server to authenticate. I'm afraid that this patch has tightened security over RPC specifically IPC$ to...

What version of Samba will work with an AIX version of Unix?
Hi all We are currently looking to implement a scenario where our AIX Unix Server and Windows Server can communicate with each other using a version of Samba. We currently scan images which are stored on our Unix system and ideally we would like our Windows Server to have access to these files. The software we use for our daily business is Unix based so the the scanned images have to be

...text passwords you can set up samba on a nis client in the same way as on a nis server. You will not realiese any differences. (At least did I not realise any thing when compailing form the source.) If you use encrypted password you have to maintain the smbpasswd file on the samba server or use securtiy = server / domain.
