How best to allow users to change Samba passwords?
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this. I've got two Samba servers, each using passdb.tdb for authentication. All works well, but I've now been asked to let users change their own passwords (a requirement of data secuity). What's the best way of arranging this, preferably updating both servers at the same time? thanks

Multiple password servers/domains
Hi all, I've just installed the new version 1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.6 box. We have multiple domains in our organization with trust relationships (Domain authentication is handled by Windows NT servers). I would like to be able to have multiple servers listed as password servers. If the server authentication fails on the first server, it would try the next. With this, I could have many

Yes!!!! You just solved a problem I've been having since 1.9.17p1!!!! I didn't realize that CIFS was limited to passthrough authentication for only its domain, so that listing multiple password servers from different domains would not work...the following did. Yeeeehhaaa! Hurm...excuse me. I added to the following in my config to make this work: netbios aliases = unix1 unix2 (not

NT/Samba 2.0.0 password problem
I believe this may not be the problem that happens the first time. I have a RedHat 5.2 running with Samba Server 2.0.0. Everything work alright with secuity of smb.conf on server mode. security = server encrypted password = yes password server = PDC However, when I tired to change to user mode, I cannot pass the authorization. security = user encrypted password = yes smb passwd file

Samba 4.1.11 RPM building tools for RHEL 6 available
I've built and made updated tags for my Samba 4.1.x RPM building tools at https://github.com/nkadel/samba4repo/, especially the the https://github.com/nkadel/samba-4.1.x-srpm with tags for the recent secuity patches in the 4.1.11 release. I'm not publishing RPM's because I'm not secure enough in my environments for building and maintaining production binaries. I'm making them

winxp roaming profiles and samba group access rights
Howdy People, I have a problem with roaming profiles in samba 3.0.5 on redhat9 ( installed from the rpm with rpm -Uv samba.3.0.5.rpm I am not using LDAP ( dont know how and as I am a Netware person on a very steep learning curve with Samba, didn't want to complicate the installation after seeing every second posting on this list as a ldap problem). The smb.conf file is listed below. The

data corruption with ms-office files on samba 2.2.3a
Hi, sometimes a ms-office file (ms word 2k, ms excel 2k) will be destroyed, when the client writes it to the server. The strange thing is, that samba writes parts of its log-files at the top and bottom of the file. Here are the first 2 lines of the destroyed file: [2002/09/04 17:03:05, 2] smbd/open.c:open_file(216) tb opened file xxx/xx/xx/xxxx/xx xx/filename_TB.doc read=Yes write=Yes

Internet Dial-in security questions
Hi, My company wants to put a SIP address on their website. The idea is that potential customers can call that address and will be forwarded to our main switchboard. It's fairly easy in theory because my asterisk server has a real IP address, so any calls to sip:<number>@asterisk-server.mycompany.com should connect just fine (except currently it will be blocked by the firewall). Please note that Windows 9x clients are not true members of a domain for reasons outlined in this article. Therefore the protocol for support Windows 9x style domain logons is completely different from NT4 domain logons and has been officially supported for some time. Did you read this document? Let me know what needs to be updated and i will take care of it. Cheers, jerry

<-----------------------------------------------------------------------> Changes to user passwords are captured by a special DLL, which traps and then stores the password changes in encrypted form in a private area. On each synchronization schedule, the synchronization service first examines the SAM file for changes, and then checks this private area for passwords to be synchronized. Once
