Moreover using policy settings from usrmgr.exe utility is more elegant in my opinion and I would be very grateful to know the issue that not allowes to use these policy based settings. The error message when I try to join to the domain is: The Domain is unavailable or the connection could not be established. What I've done so far: Run secpol.msc --> Local Plicies-->Security Options -->Lan Manager authentication level-->changed it to: LM and NTLM- use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated. Hello List Samba Version :3.0.2 (Debian Woody) Kernel Verion :2.4.27 I had to reinstall a Windows XP-Professional-Box at work. When I got to the point where you add the box to the domain, it wouldn't let me to. (I also disabled the settings in secpol.msc) I deleted the entry in smbpasswd using smbpasswd -x -m trick$, added it new and still the same problem. hello, I skipped Vista and was using WinXP on all clients until now. I deployed my policies using a file ntconfig.pol in the [netlogon]-share, but this does not work with win7 any more.
