Fwd: most common way to implement 'net time' privileges
...er rights settings group :-)
Allowing Domain Users setting time for their machines via time change
settings (clock settings on right bottom corner of windows desktop) or
via logon.bat for example I resolved adding Domain User Group into the
policy called "Allow user time change" under secpol.msc utility from
Windows XP Professional workstation.
Moreover using policy settings from usrmgr.exe utility is more elegant
in my opinion and I would be very grateful to know the issue that not
allowes to use these policy based settings.
Best regards

Disabling driver signature enforcement for Windows DomUs
...#39;s a breakdown of what I did:
- started with clean install of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (64-bit)
- installed latest GplPV drivers, verified everything was working with
the driver enforcement enabled at each boot
- as per DSEO instructions, disabled all User Account Controls via
windows secpol.msc snap-in
- installed DSEO and enabled test mode
- reboot
- GplPV drivers came up disabled, so I reinstalled the GplPV drivers,
then ran DSEO and test singed each xen file under C:\Windows
\system32\drivers which was about 4 files total
- reboot
- OS booted up without prompting for driver enfo...

Samba & Vista
I'm trying to use smbclient to look at a Vista box but I keep getting:
# smbclient -L user-pc -U Kellie
Password: <Kellie's password>
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I know the user/password combination is good.
I googled around and got the impression that Vista didn't play well
with Samba because of some authentication protocol that Vista uses but
I also got the

WG: Windows vista ultimate samba 3.0.31
...Hello to all
I have setup samba 3.0.31 as PDC successful with xp clients. Now I have
a vista ultimate pc which I cannot join to the domain. The error message
when I try to join to the domain is: The Domain is unavailable or the
connection could not be established.
What I've done so far:
Run secpol.msc --> Local Plicies-->Security Options -->Lan Manager
authentication level-->changed it to: LM and NTLM- use NTLMV2 session
security if negotiated.
Had someone did the trick??

Samba 3.0.2 PDC, reinstallted box fails to rejoin domain
Hello List
Samba Version :3.0.2 (Debian Woody)
Kernel Verion :2.4.27
I had to reinstall a Windows XP-Professional-Box at work. When I got to
the point where you
add the box to the domain, it wouldn't let me to. (I also disabled the
settings
in secpol.msc)
I deleted the entry in smbpasswd using smbpasswd -x -m trick$, added it new
and still the same problem. (The UID are right)
Out of curiousity to track the error down I went to a different box and
took it
out of the domain, to see if this one would still be able to readd it .
Well it didn...

deploy policies for win7 ?
hello,
I skipped Vista and was using WinXP on all clients until now. I deployed my policies using a file ntconfig.pol in the [netlogon]-share, but this does not work with win7 any more.
How do you deploy your policies with Vista or Win7 ?
I use recent samba 3.4.6 and hope there is some way. Every experience welcome. I think thousands of readers here might have similar problems somehow :)

I want to input user name and password every time I access the share, so I
want to disable password caching in windows client. I google to find there
is a way to modify the windows registry. But it does not work on windows
2003. Is there another way to disable password caching in winXP, win7, 2003
and 2008?

Want to join samba domain from a Vista professionnal client
...wd sync = yes
ldapsam:trusted = yes
ldap replication sleep = 3000
encrypt passwords = true
unix password sync = no
On the client side (Arrghhhg !!!......) I've made some change like this tips
I've found on Linux-Watch
Click "Start -> Run." Then, type in the Run field: "secpol.msc." That will
bring you to Vista's security policy system. Once there, use "Go to: Local
Policies > Security Options" and then find "Network Security: LAN Manager"
authentication level. Once there, change the Setting from "Send NTLMv2
response only" t...

NTLMv2 configuration problems
...amba -> OpenLDAP.
I can add machines to the domain and I can login and change passwords. The
trouble is that I'm using NTLM and have been told that I must upgrade to
NTLMv2, but I'm having great difficulty doing so.
I have existing NTLM users. I want to disable the use of NTLM, so I ran
secpol.msc and changed the LAN Manager Authentication Level to:
"Send NTLMv2 response only \ refuse LM and NTLM passwords"
I change smb.conf to include:
ntlm auth = no
client ntlmv2 auth = yes
client lanman auth = no
lanman auth = no
min protocol = NT1
I restarted the PC...

got stuck in setting up samba to linux box through putty tunneling
...I have not figured out why my vista pc won't work.
here is what I did -
1. I disable window file sharing;
2. in putty, i add a tunnel:
???? source port: 445
???? destination port: my linux box IP: 139
? ?I forward 80. i see http://127.0.0.1 yields my web server's start page.
3 i also use secpol.msc and change local policies -> security options.
By default Windows Vista sets the policy to "NTVLM2 responses only". Change this to "LM and NTLM ? use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated".
4. i start a putty session and login in.
