Successful integration using Winbind - not a dream
...he Win2K domain
controller did the following:
1. Start -> Programs -> Adminsitrative Tools -> Domain Security Policy
-> Windows Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options.
2. LAN Manager Authentication Level = Send LM & NTLM responses
3. Start -> Run -> cmd
4. secedit refreshpolicy machine_policy
5. secedit refreshpolicy user_policy
After this, I rebooted the Win2K Domain Controller for good
measure, and I also rebooted the Linux server to ensure that all of my
services started in the proper order as this appears to definately have

missing ipconfig.exe
hey all,
i am trying to run a program called 'kintecus' on a mac. it was originally written for win (and linux) machines, so i ended up using wine (to get the windows version running).
the problem is, it creates a 'unique computer ID' which you have to send to the author in order for it to work (he will provide then a code that allows you to run the program). this is done when it

I did run those although the Group Policy History and secedit.sdb did not exist

How to give more rights to users ?
Hello Everybody,
I've just finished to install a SAMBA domain with LDAP authentication.
All works fine :). The clients runs Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP. The
problem is that a simple user can't install or modify some system
parameters and in my office it's needed by some users. So I would like
to know how to give these rights to users logged in the domain on their
local system

samba support for local profiles
Hi, I tried searching the list and could not find a straight answer.
Does samba support local profiles?
How does one enable/setup local profiles?
What version of samba has best support for local profiles?
We are having trouble with a novell->samba migration and would like to use
local profiles if possible. It would take alot of work off our hands to
migrate the profiles correctly.

samba pdc & ldap without roaming profiles
Hi list
At the momtent I use samba as a pdc with tdbsam as passwd backend. I
plan to use ldap and I already tried it out. Unfortunately I didn't find
a way to disable roaming profiles. I used the smbldap tools.
First there is the question if I should use
add user script = /usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd -m "%u"
with the -a (is a Windows User) option.
If I don't, then windows account

Domain password policy with Samba AD DC
...ned of password complexity and set min password length to 8,
this was not reflected in AD.
I then wondered if it was altering sysvol, so I checked and:
sudo cat /var/lib/samba/sysvol/samdom.example.com/Policies/'{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}'/MACHINE/Microsoft/'Windows NT'/SecEdit/GptTmpl.inf

And when I turned password complexity back on through GPME:

Samba 3.0.0 PDC + Win2000 Client + Group Policies
...enabled poledit.exe, we removed #if and #endif lines from GPO's ADM templates
files and created with it the required NTconfig.pol in the netlogon share.
We tried DefaultUser, a DomainGroup (net groupmap...), a user, and the policy
didn't have any effect at all (we tried to login/logout, secedit /refresh,
and even some different case 4 ntconfig.pol just in case).
The surprising fact is that from another Win2k, with the same poledit and ADM
files, i can remotely connect (without any password) to the Win2K's logged
domain user's registry, and check some restriction's boxes, an...
