R search engine and Mozilla

The problem seems to be javascript related. When I open the "Search
Engine" page, the status bar shows "Applet SearchEngine started". If
I move the cursur to a link, e.g. "attribute", the status bar shows
the link refers to
"javascript:SearchInIndex('attribute',false,true,false);") .
If I click on the link, the page opens but the status bar shows
"stopped" and the Mozilla JavaScript Console shows an error:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIURI.hostPort]"...

IE5 html help search failure (PR#205)
...tic warning on the terminal; is that still
necessary?), I can do apparaently anything in the help system, except
search.
If I'm on the top search page page
(E:\programs\R\rw0641\doc\html\search\SearchEngine.html) and click on
any topic, say 'aplot', I go to 'address'
javascript:searchInIndex%20('%20aplot') and Explorer says 'Done', but
nothing happens. Click on 'Go back' and I get 'No matches for aplot have
been found'.
I've tried several others, and also typing easy terms such as 'plot'
into the dialog box, all to no avail.
