The Wrong Choice: Locked in by license restrictions
A colleague pointed me to this article advocating R as a Matlab substitute. Here is the link (deliberately on two lines: http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/ originalContent/0,289142,sid39_gci902076,00.html I'm not a Matlab user, but I understand that it provides a nice front end to the Linpack collection of numerical linear algebra routines. My friend and I wonder if R can really compete in that league. Does anyone know if there...

Trying to get a better understanding of group mapping
...rs (S-1-5-32-545) -> -1 Only the domain accounts have the same sid that I see when I run the getlocalsid command. Why is this? Does it have anything to do with the whole Windows logic of domain accounts vs. local accounts? What is the advantage of mapping the non-domain accounts? See http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid39_cid557668_tax293414,00.html The example in the Samba How To Collection maps the Windows Domain Admins group to the Linux ntadmin group. Why don't we just map it to the Linux root group? How do we make the ntadmin group have root access on th...

everyone acl
Howdy all, I was wondering if there was a known bug with the everyone acl. When looking at the security tab on windows the everyone acl has the read permission. If I unselect it to give everyone no permission and hit apply, read becomes checked again. If I select deny everyone read, then a warning pops up saying this will deny read for all users and it does. If after that I give read to another

Drupal/MySQL performance in Xen and OpenVZ
Hi, We are considering a transition from OpenVZ to Xen for our web server infrastructure. The primary task performed by the virtual servers is to run a number of Drupal sites with a MySQL backend. The webserver and MySQL servers are on separate virtual hosts. We also have a number of smaller hosts running on the same hardware (a couple of dev-servers, a logging-and-monitoring server, a secondary

Access denied when setting permissions
I have a windows 2003 AD domain and a server joined to that domain. Winbind is being used as an idmap. Most everything seems to work fine. Winbind gets user info correctly: [root@samba ~]# wbinfo -u TESTDOMAIN\administrator TESTDOMAIN\guest TESTDOMAIN\support_388945a0 TESTDOMAIN\krbtgt TESTDOMAIN\swhaley TESTDOMAIN\test [root@samba ~]# wbinfo -g BUILTIN\administrators BUILTIN\users
