Convert a real system in a DomU
Hi,
I was a server running Fedora 6. I want to migrate it to Xen on a
Centos 5.1. Can I make something like
dd if=/dev/sdaX of=fedora6.img (on FC6)
and then on Centos 5.1
dd if=fedora6.img of=/dev/sdaX
Could I run this system into Xen?
Thanks in advance!

Adding a new disk to an existing raid 10
Dear all,
I'm not used to handling software raid.
I've inherited a server which has raid 10 set.
one of our disks failed, and it's to be replaced today.
My question is; any hint how to add this new disk to the existing raid array ?
first thought is :- Create identical partitions as other disks in the array i'd like to add it to.- add it to raid.
Though i'm extremely worried of

SCSI install to IDE install - help
Hi, a customer has a Centos installation on SCSI disk (aic7xxx), there are
some programs that he no longer have the installation media (some accounting
stuff).
Due to the SCSI disk going bad we must tranfer the installation to some
other disks. SCSI disks are very difficult to find here and must be ordered
(and wait about 45 days to arrive at the dealer).
Can I clone the SCSI disk to a IDE Disk

Help! Extlinux no longer bootable after reorder disk numbers
...mplain something about:
requested disk number partition combination not found
If booting from Live CD, all the Ubuntu systems/partitions are still
mountable, no data have lost, but just none of them are bootable any more,
even after I reinstalled the extlinux boot to them (extlinux --install
/mnt/sdax/boot/extlinux), which is what I've been using before.
Now, details on how I boot my Ubuntu systems -- the active partition is a
Linux/Ubuntu system, that can still boot (from extlinux, because it resides
before the reordered partitions), and it in turn chain boots other Ubuntu
systems, with...

iSCSI disk preperation
I am currently going through the process of installing/configuring an
iSCSI target and cannot find a good write up on how to prepare the disks
on the server. I would like to mirror the two disks and present them to
the client. Mirroring isn't the question, its how I go about it is the
problem. When I partitioned the two drives and mirrored them together,
then presented them to the client,

Fsck on mdraid array
Something seems to be wrong with my file systems, and I want to fsck
everything. But I cannot.
The setup consists of 2 hds, carrying 3 raid1 (ext3) file systems (boot,
/, swap). OS is up-to-date CentOS 5.
So I boot from CentOS 5.3 dvd in rescue mode, do not mount the file
systems, and try to run
fsck -y /dev/md0
fsck -y /dev/md1
fsck -y /dev/md2
For each try I get an error message:

CentOS 7 install on one RAID 1 [not-so-SOLVED]
Let me see if I can, um, reboot this thread....
I made a RAID 1 of two raw disks, /dev/sda and /dev/sdb, *not* /dev/sdax
/dev/sdbx. Then I installed CentOS 7 on the RAID, with /boot, /, and swap
being partitions on the RAID. My problem is that grub2-install absolutely
and resolutely refuses to install on /dev/sda or /dev/sdb.
I've currently got it up in a half-assed rescue mode, and have mount -o

Booting to USB Pen Drive
I am trying to use Syslinux as my boot loader for a stripped down
version of Knoppix (DSL) on a USB Pen Drive. I followed the instructions
verbatim on
http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/knoppix-usb.html, but
no luck. The system will start to boot to the USB, but gives a Kernel
Panic. I will give all information that shows on the screen.
After I select Boot from USB (which on my

very strange nsswitch.ldap problem
...ight (if at all). It would sit forever,
apparently trying to build /dev with udev.
I found that eventually it would continue the boot sequence, but /dev
was broken. Immediately I could see that /boot was not able to be
mounted and the swap was not made active: the system couldn't access
/dev/sdaX, there was no valid device there.
Root was on sda3 and it was mounted, but I think grub set that up
directly w/o the use of /dev.
I traced the problem to the nsswitch.ldap that I put into place as
nsswitch.conf.
If I have:
hosts: files dns
the system boots just fine. If I have:
hosts: files...

xen_emul_unplug on xen 4.1, HVM guest 2.6.38
I am running Xen 4 and want users to be able to install arbitrary HVM
images. We want both PV and emulated drivers to appear. The reason
for this is for compatibility with images that were prepared for
Xen 3.3, which assume emulated devices exist at boot time (particularly
for running the boot loader).
If I do not specify on the boot line xen_emul_unplug=never, then

Since sda2 is mounted i could not check it, but from the logs it is
not clear to me if the issue is in sda2 or sdb1.
maybe the error should be something like that:
btrfs: sdaX: Error XXXXXX
I intend to reinstall the guest, since it is for testing purposes
(btrfs testing)
I booted first with 3.8.0-0.rc3.git1.1.fc19 (which has a lot of
issues) and then back with 3.7.2-201.fc18.
Cheers.

Migrating to RAID
I have CentOS 4.x installed on a single 500GB SATA drive. Drive is
about 10 percent used. I would like to migrate to software RAID 5
without reinstalling the OS. Was thinking 3 500GB drives. Is that
possible or must I reinstall?
