slog tests on read throughput exhaustion (NFS)
...llowed to coexist from the
pool itself. My test case isn''t ideal per se, but I added a local 9GB
SCSI (80) drive for a log, and added to LUNs for the pool itself.
You''ll see from the below that while the log device is pegged at
15MB/sec (sd5), my directory list request on devices sd15 and sd16
never are answered. I tried this with both no-cache-flush enabled and
off, with negligible difference. Is there anyway to force a better
balance of reads/writes during heavy writes?

eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?
HI All,
I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice
1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS.
or
2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box?
I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music,

Unbootable system recovery
I have just recently (physically) moved a system with 16 hard drives (for the array) and 1 OS drive; and in doing so, I needed to pull out the 16 drives so that it would be light enough for me to lift.
When I plugged the drives back in, initially, it went into a panic-reboot loop. After doing some digging, I deleted the file /etc/zfs/zpool.cache.
When I try to import the pool using the zpool

General Samba question
Greetings to all.
I am currently a bit of a newbie in regards using Linux and Samba. I have
worked for several years in the IT/digital divide sector of the nonprofit world
(particularly in regards to utilizing used and refurbished hardware). I am have
a couple of CompTIA certs. (A+ and N+) and some experience administering
Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Anyway to my question....

Help understanding some benchmark results
G''day, all,
So, I''ve decided to migrate my home server from Linux+swRAID+LVM to Solaris+ZFS, because it seems to hold much better promise for data integrity, which is my primary concern.
However, naturally, I decided to do some benchmarks in the process, and I don''t understand why the results are what they are. I though I had a reasonable understanding of ZFS, but now

X4500 device disconnect problem persists
After applying 125205-07 on two X4500 machines running Sol10U4 and
removing "set sata:sata_func_enable = 0x5" from /etc/system to
re-enable NCQ, I am again observing drive disconnect error messages.
This in spite of the patch description which claims multiple fixes
in this area:
6587133 repeated DMA command timeouts and device resets on x4500
6538627 x4500 message logs contain multiple
