Is round-robin I/O correct for ZFS?
I''m testing an Iscsi multipath configuration on a T2000 with two disk devices provided by a Netapp filer. Both the T2000 and the Netapp have two ethernet interfaces for Iscsi, going to separate switches on separate private networks. The scsi_vhci devices look like this in `format'': 1. c4t60A98000433469764E4A413571444B63d0 <NETAPP-LUN-0.2-50.00GB> /scsi_vhci/ssd at g60a98000433469764e4a413571444b63 2. c4t60A98000433469764E4A41357149432Fd0 <NETAPP-LUN-0.2-50.00GB> /scsi_vhci/ssd at g60a9...

Seagate Constellation vs. Hitachi Ultrastar
Happy Friday, List! I''m spec''ing out a Thumper-esque solution and having trouble finding my favorite Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB drives at a reasonable post-flood price. The Seagate Constellations seem pretty reasonable given the market circumstances but I don''t have any experience with them. Anybody using these in their ZFS systems and have you had good luck? Also, if

mpt_sas multipath problem?
Greetings, We''re trying out a new JBOD here. Multipath (mpxio) is not working, and we could use some feedback and/or troubleshooting advice. The OS is oi151a7, running on an existing server with a 54TB pool of internal drives. I believe the server hardware is not relevant to the JBOD issue, although the internal drives do appear to the OS with multipath device names (despite the fact

WD caviar/mpt issues
I know that this has been well-discussed already, but it''s been a few months - WD caviars with mpt/mpt_sas generating lots of retryable read errors, spitting out lots of beloved " Log info 31080000 received for target" messages, and just generally not working right. (SM 836EL1 and 836TQ chassis - though I have several variations on theme depending on date of purchase: 836EL2s,

Can DTrace display non-instrumented function argument counts and types?
Is it possible to use DTrace to display the number of arguments and their types for userland or kernel functions that are not explicitly instrumented or documented by their authors? We''re talking about functions provided by Veritas VxVM/VxFS and the like, and for example, we might want to try tracing I/Os from App => VxFS => VxVM => ssd driver to see where I/Os get aggregated or

Does zpool clear delete corrupted files
...vel. We are actually in the process of migrating this to a x4540 + j4500 setup, but since the x4540 is part of the existing pool, we need to mirror it, then detach it so we can build out the replacement storage. What happened was some time after I had attached the mirror to the x4540, the scsi_vhci/network connection went south, and the server panicked. Since this system has been up, over the past 2.5 years, this has never happened before. When we got the thing glued back together, it immediately started resilvering from the beginning, and reported about 1.9 million data errors. Th...
