Mongrel with LocalDirector - static content?
...tor, which I
would be inclined to at least try first as a substitute for Apache/
mod_proxy_balancer. The biggest potential downside that I can see is
that, in such a setup, mongrel would be serving static files as well
as the dynamic Rails parts.
My biggest question is, how recommended (or scorned) is having
mongrel serve the static parts? A secondary question is, has anyone
used mongrel clusters behind a LocalDirector?
Thanks very much!

This is supposed to predict a time series?!
Hello,
I just ran the predict.StructTS function using the AirPassengers data
and got a ridiculous result. Here's what I ended up with:

Who wrote this? Am I seriously supposed to think this function would
accurately predict a time series?

ODE
Hello All,
I'm struggling to solve this ODE using R,
vdpol <- function (h, v, t) (
list(c (
-0.1*v/(pi*(2*10*h-h^2)),
(v = (-0.1*v/(pi*(2*10*h-h^2))^2) + 2*9.81*h))
))
library(deSolve)
yini <- (c(h = 20, v=0))
nonstiff <- ode(y = yini, func = vdpol,

[PATCH] ocfs2: Update atime in splice read if necessary.
We should call ocfs2_inode_lock_atime instead of ocfs2_inode_lock
in ocfs2_file_splice_read like we do in ocfs2_file_aio_read so
that we can update atime in splice read if necessary.

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All!
Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot
more info now than I used to have!
But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build
up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC?
All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating
a new domain as you create the Samba

[PATCH] ocfs2: Provide the ocfs2_dlm_lvb_valid() stack API.
The Lock Value Block (LVB) of a DLM lock can be lost when nodes die and
the DLM cannot reconstruct its state. Clients of the DLM need to know
this.
ocfs2's internal DLM, o2dlm, explicitly zeroes out the LVB when it loses
track of the state. This is not a standard behavior, but ocfs2 has
always relied on it. Thus, an o2dlm LVB is always "valid".
ocfs2 now supports both o2dlm and

two 2-node clusters or one 4-node cluster?
Hello,
I'm planning migration of current two clusters based on CentOS 6.x with
Cman/Rgmanager going to CentOS 7.x and Corosync/Pacemaker.
As the clusters and their services are on the same subnet, and there no
particular security concerns differentiating them, I'm also evaluating the
option to transform the two clusters into a unique 4-node one during the
upgrade.
Currently I'm

SELinux threads, cynicism, one-upmanship, etc.
After reading through the various SELinux threads, I really became quite
perturbed. I mean, really quite perturbed.
As an IT Director (and the entire IT department, currently), if I were hiring
a sysadmin I know for a fact that someone whose first response to a question
on why something doesn't work is 'turn it off' would not get a job here.
Neither would a sysadmin with as much

ZFS, XFS, and EXT4 compared
I have a lot of people whispering "zfs" in my virtual ear these days,
and at the same time I have an irrational attachment to xfs based
entirely on its lack of the 32000 subdirectory limit. I''m not afraid of
ext4''s newness, since really a lot of that stuff has been in Lustre for
years. So a-benchmarking I went. Results at the bottom:

CentOS Based Fierwall Document
For those of you that either have an older revision of my firewall document, or are otherwise keeping track of it, there is a new version available. The current version of the document is version 3.1. It's changed rather significantly in some areas.

[PATCH 0/7] [RESEND] Fix some deadlocks in quota code and implement lockdep for cluster locks
Hi,
I'm resending this patch series. It's rediffed against linux-next branch of
Joel's git tree. The first four patches are obvious fixes of deadlocks in quota
code and should go in as soon as possible. The other three patches implement
lockdep support for OCFS2 cluster locks. So you can have a look whether the
code make sence to you and possibly merge them. They should be NOP when

MIT vs GPL vs LGPL for open source project
I intend to release a project I wrote with Rails.
What is the right licensing scheme for a web application (content
managing system) which could grow with plugins and add-ons ?
Personally, I would prefer the GPL but does that mean any add-on to the
CMS (like task management) will have to be GPL ?
If some people contribute to the code could it still be double-licenced
so that the people who
