Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
...nlinearmod2 <- nls(mymod2, start = list(theta1 = trysol2$coefficients[[1]], theta2 = trysol2$coefficients[[2]], theta3 = trysol2$coefficients[[3]]), data = mod14data2_random) And I got this error: Error in nlsModel(formula, mf, start, wts, scaleOffset = scOff, nDcentral = nDcntr) : singular gradient matrix at initial parameter estimates Any idea on how to proceed in this situation? What could I do? Kind regards, Paul [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Kernel:[Hardware Error]: use of vacuum

Also noteworthy: the air moving through a hose can cause a vacuum's hose or attachment to build up a static charge, which is another reason it can be a bad...

vglm(), t values and p values
...df for x is 1, hence I plan to use "1 - pt(tvalue,1)", though I might well be wrong. In any case getting the darned t value seems impossible 2) because of the difficulty of getting (1), it there a way of getting vglm() to spit out a p-value for x please? I do recon many people might scoff at my crass desire for a p-value, but I'm dealing with some dire phenotype in a whole genome analysis where the *only* thing that matters are p-values. I have to be quite unsophysticated I'm afraid. Best, Federico -- Federico C. F. Calboli Department of Epidemiology and Public Health...

...checking and push debit card paychecks on low income jobs where they charge just for the poor to check how much they have on it. That's not criminal though, it's taking from the poor so the rich can buy new cars and cruises but it's not criminal so there is no reason why we should scoff at that.

Kernel:[Hardware Error]: use of vacuum
...ar > and vacuum out the house dirt and cat fuzzies. I'm probably overdue for > this task. Cleaning is a good thing to do, but not with a vacuum... the vacuum could loosen components, even make them disappear. Much better would be to use a blower or bellows of some kind. Also, cowboys scoff, but I always wear a grounded wrist strap when handling electronics.

Predict
When I callculate a linear model, then I can compute via confint the confidencial intervals. the interval level can be chosen. as result, I get the parameter of the model according to the interval level. On the other hand, I can compute the prediction-values for my model as well with predict(object, type=c("response") etc.). Here I have also the possibility to chose a level for the

Buildbot Noise
...f the "noise" in these bots are just noise, others are signal masquerading as noise. Of course, the higher the noise level, the harder it is to interpret the signal, but as it's usual in science, sometimes the only signal we have is a noisy one. It's common for mathematicians to scoff the physicists lack of precision, as is for them to to the same to chemists, then biologists, etc. When you're on top, it seems folly that some people endure large amounts of noise in their signal, but when you're at the bottom and your only signal has a lot of noise, you have to work with...

...ressed with his pupil's work, Masamune lowered his sword, the /Yawarakai-Te/ (?????, "Tender Hands"), into the current and waited patiently. Only leaves were cut. However, the fish swam right up to it, and the air hissed as it gently blew by the blade. After a while, Muramasa began to scoff at his master for his apparent lack of skill in the making of his sword. Smiling to himself, Masamune pulled up his sword, dried it, and sheathed it. All the while, Muramasa was heckling him for his sword's inability to cut anything. A monk, who had been watching the whole ordeal, walked over a...

Buildbot Noise
Folks, David has been particularly militant with broken buildbots recently, so to make sure we don't throw the baby with the bath water, I'd like to propose some changes on how we deal with the emails on our *current* buildmaster, since there's no concrete plans to move it to anything else at the moment. The main issue is that managing the buildbots is not a simple task. It requires

Advocating RoR in the enterprise?
Hi folks, I''m looking for advice on how to promote RoR in my workplace. Specifically, I''d like to work out a strategy for promoting development in Rails as a new alternative to our existing technology (the usual suspects... mostly Java/Oracle, .NET, PHP, and a bit of Perl here and there). Some background: I work for a fairly large state environmental agency as a web developer.
