Confidence-Intervals.... help...
Hi...
I have to use R to find out the 90% confidence-interval for the sensitivity
and specificity of the following diagnostic test:
A particular diagnostic test for multiple sclerosis was conducted on 20 MS
patients and 20 healthy subjects, 6 MS patients were classified as healthy
and 8 healthy subjects were classified as suffering from the MS.
Furthermore, I need to find the number of MS patients required for a
sensitivity of 1%...
Is there a simple R-command which can do tha...

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society of America recently started an
advertising campaign with the slogan "MS: It's not a software company".
Seasoned IT professionals will have no trouble telling the two MS's
apart. One is a debilitating and surprisingly widespread affliction
that renders the sufferer barely...

Positions at GMI, Dublin, Ireland
Dear mailing list,
Genomics Medicine Ireland is opening new positions for our bioinformatics team. The team will analyse the ?omics data produced at GMI, which currently includes disease cohorts such as IBD, Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, rare diseases, cancer and recently we have opened programs in diabetes and asthma. Our work will also focus on ancestry related topics, namely how population genetics can increase the power of disease analysis.
We are building a team of cognitively diverse people, that will feed...

Histogram Principal component analysis in R
...PCA on these histograms (specifically the group
averaged one) to come up with the first few eigenvectors/PC scores that
would summarize the information contained in the histograms. Some medical
papers have done this (Dehmeshki J, Ruto AC, Arridge S...(2001) : Analysis
Of MTR histograms in multiple sclerosis using PC and muliple LDA") maybe
using some medical softwares. However, It would be great to know if there
are any R functions that can do this.

[OT] Survival and Function as co-primary endpoints in clinical trials. How to simulate in R ?
...is my favorite computer tool (no kidding) and there are plenty of
knowledgable and helpful people on the list.
Background: There are discussions among experts and regulatory
authorities (cf guideline
http://www.emea.europa.eu/pdfs/human/ewp/056598en.pdf) that, in for
example Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a functional endpoint
(respiratory function, muscular testing, rating scale) should be
associated (co-primary, 2 primaries etc..) to survival in drug trials.
My problem: I wish to illustrate that from my point of view and when you
have a drug that improves survival this is not what you should do...

need help with MSVC
for recent code changes I find myself needing some workarounds
for MSVC6:
1st, I need a fast way to swap bytes (for endianness) of a 32-bit
int. I could not find a builtin like bswap; the closest thing I
found was ntohl() which appears to be a function call and also
requires linking with winsock2 (ws2_32.lib) to get it.
2nd, I need an equivalent for lround() (or round() is ok), which
is not in
