configuring Shares, Users with Samba 4.0.5 as an AD DC
Hi, I think your problem may be that you are are trying to run the
standalone winbind daemon at the same time as the samba deamon, you cannot
do this, the samba daemon has its own built in winbind.
Could you please confirm how you provisioned samba4, post a sanitized
version of your smb.conf and explain just what you are hoping to achieve.

Samba Import User Scipt
Hello NG,
ich would like to use the Samba-Server as an PDC for a school.
Because of the high numbers of students it is not possible for us to add
ervery student by hand an think about a pw.
Has anyone designed a script which read the users from an ASCII-file and
add's them to the samba?

ACL bug
...mins:rwx
default:mask::rwx
default:other::---
The owning group or world shall never have access to this directory (and
to all children), only members of group 'admins' shall have.
Now if I create a file on the console, it has the following ACL:
# file: testfile1
# owner: dariush
# group: schueler
user::rw-
group::---
group:admins:rwx #effective:rw-
mask::rw-
other::---
You'll see that group:: is unchanged and mask:: has shortened to rw-
Now a file that I've created through Samba:
(create mask = 0660 or create mask = 0600; make no difference):

kvm package difference - v36 via yum, v83 via DVD
Hi!
As far as I can see there is no kvm in the base repository but
the older version 36 in CentOS-Extras. Version 83 that belongs
to 5.4 is only found on the install DVD and CD-Set.
So it's different when installing kvm later with yum which results
in kvm-36 than choosing 'Virtualization' on DVD install that
installs kvm-83.
It's also a difference between installing from network

Mailing list replies and Evolution
Hi,
I wanted to reply messages (e.g. to the cross-build-env in centos-devel)
but my replies get posted as a new thread. I'm using Emulution 2.8 and I
think Evolution eats the in-reply-to information. Is there anyone who
also uses Evolution (especially in conjunction with a Scalix imap
server)?
So please tell me the right settings to acting not so disturbingly.
Thanks.
Brian.

logon scripts execute randomly
I use samba 3.0.9 as a pdc with ldapsam. In the ldap entries, for every user
there is a logon script sambaLogonScript. I only use two different scripts
for 1000 users and 100 computers. The scripts lehrer.bat and schueler.bat
reside in the netlogon share and provide more shares with the net use
command.
>From the user's perspective, this often works well. sometimes, however, the
script is not executed, without further notice, and the users see only their
own home directory. more proficient users still can co...

[Cortado] How to support seeking in on-the-fly generated Theora stream?
Hello all!
i want to use Theora in a little video portal, because its free and open
source and i want to contribute some code to get the Java Theora player
(Cortado) more feature-rich.
But now I'm stuck and hope that someone can point me into the right
direction.
I have videos stored in several formats (mostly H.264 or MPEG4) and use
ffmpeg2theora to recode them on the fly. The recoded

LinuxTag day One
The guys [3] at LinuxTag want to share some of the stuff they have
been doing today.
After setting up the booth [1] we started the usual socializing by
doing this, we met Brian Schueler again who created a PowerPC 32
version of CentOS and even a ARMv5. This is quite impressive and we
all gathered around to see a little demonstration. Further we talked
to the usual suspects from Fedora and Red Hat which was represented
quite strongly this year.
Nothing special about the booth [2]...

Samba 3.0, LDAP, OUs and how to add machine accounts
Hello,
I have a Samba 3.0/LDAP setup with
| ldap machine suffix = ou=Computers
but as this is for a school, I decided to separate teachers and scholars
computers into different sub-OUs for my own mental sanity. So in LDAP it
looks like:
| dn: uid=pc116$,ou=Schueler,ou=Computers,dc=lise-meitner,dc=at
or
| dn: uid=biblio1$,ou=Lehrer,ou=Computers,dc=lise-meitner,dc=at
This works absolutely perfect and allows me to do nice things in terms
of DHCP- and DNS-automization. The only thing I don't like is that
| # pdbedit -a -m -u pc117
creates an account for...

Cross compiling tinc for arm platform
Hello.
I managed to setup a cross compiler on my Gentoo system to compile for arm
platform.
I installed all nessecary tools and libs in /usr/arm-unknown-linux-uclibc/
like openssl lzo and so on over the cross emerge package manager.
But what command is nessecary to configure tinc to run on arm?
I used:
./configure --host=arm-unknown-linux-uclibc

bind segfault in conjunction with dbus - what to change?
Hi all,
I have a problem running bind on C5.4 when the messagebus
service is activated. When I switch off the dbus message
service bind runs well. With dbus activated bind crashes
with a segfault.
How can I get rid of this error? What shall I change?
SElinux (the source of most unexpedted things) is switched
off.
Following versions are installed:
