Sub-vector
Dear list,
Given a vector of logical values, say
>a <- c(TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE)
Are there any R functions that can tell whether there are two or more
"TRUE" in a row in this vector?
Thanks,

Using cdrecord on CentOS
Hi,
I'd like to use cdrecord on the command line. I'm currently reading the
relevant chapter in Carla Schroder's "Linux Cookbook". Unfortunately,
some of the tricks and hints included in the book don't seem to work the
same way on a standard CentOS 5 install.
1) Am I supposed to be root to use cdrecord and burn an .iso file?
2) How do I specify a device? 'cdrecord -scanbus' doe...

Still going to take a while on initial upload. (Sounds almost AWS Snowball like is what you need but too costly).

SSH without password on CentOS 5 ?
Hi,
I'd like to use SSH without password so I can use it in scripts (for
example in combination with rsync to do backups). I have Carla
Schroder's "Linux Cookbook" and I'm trying out the various receipts, but
the one for SSH without a password doesn't work. The book is slightly
dated, and I wonder if SSH included in CentOS works differently.
Any suggestions?

1.4 gsm files changed??
...ry.gsm
-rw-r--r-- 1 1000 1000 1419 Dec 5 2005 im-sorry.gsm
$ ls -l im-sorry.gsm
-rw-r--r-- 1 1000 1000 9240 Sep 20 09:36 im-sorry.gsm
All of them are several times larger in 1.4- is it supposed to be like this?
Should I file a bug report?

It works fine despite the warnings. I've been trying to change the configs to
make the warnings go away, but nothing I've tried works. Anyone know what to
do?

Basic SAMBA setup
Hi,
I want to setup a simple SAMBA file server, in its most simple configuration
first, and then fine-tune that gradually. I've never worked with SAMBA before,
so I based myself on Carla Schroder's "Linux Cookbook", chapter XX: SAMBA.
Here's what I did, following the step-by-step instructions and reading the
explanations as to what-does-what:
# mkdir -m 777 /shares
Rename /etc/samba/smb.conf to something else (old.sambaconfig) and then edit a
new smb.conf from scratch,...

CLI History
What's wrong with the Asterisk CLI history? When I exit the CLI, and re-enter, the last command in the history always defaults to 'stop now'. This is very bad, and it's caused accidental shutdowns more than once.
Connected to Asterisk 1.2.9.1 currently running on hera (pid = 17399)
Verbosity is at least 3

New installation CentOS 4 x86 or X86_64
Hi list!
I have to do a new bare metal installation of a box running Asterisk with
bristuff or vzaphfc.
The box will be used as a really lightly loaded file server and pbx.
Any advise on which architecture I should use? The cpu is a 64 bit capable
AMD (the box is running x86_64 now) but is still suffering from echo on
the BRI lines.
Should I go with the normal x86 or the 64 bit x86_64

public static IP. The clients (2) are with dynamic private IP's
I'm using SJphone on a PC and a Linksys PAP2-NA to make calls between them.
Both of them register well on my Asterisk server but when I call from the

BIND: listen-on and allow-recursion
Hi,
I'm currently trying to get a grasp on DNS and Bind. I admit the
documentation is quite confusing, either too laconic or way too
detailed. So I'm trying to start from a working example, and then bite
my way through it.
I have a sample named.conf file from Carla Schroder's Linux Cookbook. In
the opening global options, I have this :
listen-on {
127.0.0.1;
10.11.12.1;
};
allow-recursion {
127.0.0.0/8;
10.11.12.0/24;
};
As far as I understand, the purpose of these two stanzas is to limit
access to the DNS server to 1) the server itself and 2) the local
